Started shooting trap.
Using 870 express 28"

I want an over under.

Two I have boiled it down to are

CZ Canvas back 28" Used 599.00 mint condition.
Winchester 101 New 28" 999.00

Both have screw in chokes.
Will also be a field gun for pheasant season as well.

Opinions welcome.
Thanks

Sure..

Can't afford to drop that kind of cash, for a dedicated trap gun.
And I am not looking for one either, as noted it will also be a field gun.

Thanks for the opinion, wish I could get a dedicated one, saw a sweet one at Cabelas for 1800.00 but it would be useless in the field.

Of those two I would buy the CZ. I have a neighbor who has one and shoots about 100 rounds a week. He has had it about 3 years with no problems. It is getting a little loose after 10,000 or so rounds threw it.

Buy the Winchester 101, they are great guns. I shoot a Winchester model 12 trap gun and a Winchester 101 skeet gun that I bought for field an trap and skeet. I have no issues using them in the field.

You are going the other way. You're buying a field gun to shoot trap, this will work but you will be handicap on the trap field. As your skill improves you will most likely want a full fledged trap gun.

The OP isn't asking about dedicated Trap guns....

But a 29.5" being the optimal Trap gun, no way ....my personal preference for Trap is an Over Under that weighs right around 10 lbs ..with 32" barrels ..( and I prefer the Browning Citori, XT Trap model ) in that configuration.

If I wanted to shoot a single barrel....Browning BT-99 or Browning BT-100 then I would want at least a 32" ...and frankly a 34" would be better. I like the Browning BT-100 a lot ....but the best single barrel Trap gun I've shot is a Krieghoff KX-6 ...in a 34".

BigJim is right about getting the one that you that fits you best. If there is no difference or if you haven't had an opportunity to shoot them, I would be tempted to go with the CZ just because of the money factor.
