Ok I have the new rifle picked out.
Savage 25 walking varminter.

Target and critter shooting out to 300 yards max.

Now the tuff part what caliber, .223 or 5.7x28

I have .223 brass and dies, but that 5.7 looks fun and in a bolt gun even better. I have shot the FN 5.7 hand gun neat little round.

So
.223 have brass and dies.
Kind of board with it...but it shoots well..
5.7 no brass or dies but it is a new round (for me) and it looks fun
Plus I have the fun of working up a new load..

I just don't know enough about the 5.7

Thanks for any suggestions or help..

.223 all the way, I don't think you'll like the performance at long range out of the 5.7X28 cartridge. Especially when you talk about shooting critters out to 300 yards. The .223 will get you there easy, I'm not sure about the 5.7X28.

I would go with the 5.7 because life is to short to stick with the crowd. If you are working up your own loads who knows, you might find a combination that works for you.
