Was looking around the other day and found an S&W M 36 for $190. It showed some holster wear and the wood grips were beat up but mechanically iit was solid, store owner says it was a good deal, but I need to hear it form an independent source. He also had 3 or 4 Colt Detective specials all right around $280- 300. Just not sure where to go, want to pick up a snubbie, like the size and price of the 36, but like the Colts for reasons I can't explain.

While the Colt Detective Special is a six-shooter, and a little more
desireable from a collectors standpoint; its awfully hard to beat a
'LIL S&W model 36 for a CCW choice. Colt's D-frame, is larger than
Smith's J-frame allowing the Detective Special to be a bit harder
to conceal. I've known NIB model 36's to be in the neighborhood of
$290-300; but at the time, they were hard to get. Although the
S&W wood grips can be replaced, they too are a bit hard to find.
Holster wear on a blued gun is something we all have too live with,
unless of course we want to refinish the weapon. So, I'd say that
$190 is not too bad of a price, provided the weapon checks out
mechanically.

Best Wishes,

M36

The M36's are great little guns. Most have round butts grips, but a few have the square butts. Replacements can be found with a little persistence. Try the S&W Forum Classifieds. I found some nice Combat Grips for my 36 there. There are also original target grips available from time to time as well. I can also point you to some other sources if you do make the purchase. The M36 was my only gun for 15 years. Best wishes. ;)

The S@W M-36 for $190 is a heck of a deal.Around here they go for $250 to $275 in good shape. You might want to pick that one up!

Depends...

If you're a collector and want to resell what you buy for more money, get one or several of the Colts.

If you want a serious defense pocket gun, get the Smith. If it's loose, an average gunplumber can tighten it up some. There are specialists who can make it sing.

That's a good price for a used Smith, by the way.

I like the Colts too for reasons that I can partially explain; but in this case go with the 36.

So I went and put some money down on the M36 what are some good options for Concealed Carry, I'm a good sized guy (6'1 250) so I shouldn't have any trouble with concealment, what do you find works best
