Opinions on Wilson Professional model Scattergun

I bought a Wilson Class 3 Scattergun in Blk & gry for home defense and was just wondering what everyones opinion is as far as Quality, value for money, and choice for home defense. I`m by no means new to the gun world just wanting sum feedback on this weapon

Wilson does good work, though some of what they do is easily done by most of us hobbyists. It's parts swapping and tweaking rather than major surgery.

As for your particular weapon, go shoot it and see. If it goes 200 rounds of duty ammo glitchless( The Ayoob Test) and you hit what you're shooting at, well........

Thanx 4 your feedback Dave. I`v got a full size Wilson scattergun and i`v put thousands of rounds through it with 0 problems. I just wanted sumthing short and compact to manuver around the house vs My fullsize or my big azz Benelli M4 lol

I'm not a tactical shotgun officianado - and don't pay much attention to them - but I've fired a couple of Wilson scatterguns and they operated very fluidly ....

I have 4 of the Wilson Combat 1911 handguns - and I'm a big fan of their company and their high quality - so I'd be really surprised if you found it had any flaws - and even if it does, I'm confident Wilson will take care of it. Wilson Combat is one of the few gun mfg's I know of in terms of warranty - just say "complete customer satisfaction" vs a time limit, etc ...

but like Dave said - as far as I know, they take an existing weapon and "clean it up" so it meets their specs...

Thanx Bigjim. I also have several Wilson guns along with a CQB Elite...my only wilson handgun and my carry peice. I`m glad to see that theres not alot of " Wilson bashing " here. I get sick and tired of people saying that there guns are not worth the money. I will be the first to agree that they aint cheap lol, but i live by an ol saying ' You get what ya pay for " and there 1911`s cant be beat imo. By the way....this class 3 wilson is a thing of beauty!

Glad to hear that Don ...

My carry gun is a Wilson Combat CQB, 5", in .45 acp ....but I have a number of Protector models, 5", all stainless ... in 9mm, . 40S&W and .45 acp - they are all a pleasure to shoot ...

People are entitled to spend their money any way they want ... I just like nice guns ... and in term of 1911's I have an Ed Brown, a Les Baer, a few Kimbers --- and hands down the oldest Wilson I have is a better gun than any of the others, in my opinion ...

I hope the shotgun turns out to be the same .... (I'm a Browning guy / lots of Citori O/U's , and a couple of BPS pump guns )...but I've thought about adding a "scattergun technology weapon to the mix someday"...

I could`nt agree more Jim. I too have shot all kinds of high dollar and custom 1911`s and the Wilsons are just that much better no ifs ands or buts about it!

In general, a more useful sequence is:

1) Ask

2) Buy

... if you're looking for advice, not the other way around. ;)

Since you asked for feedback... I wouldn't spend the money it takes to get a Wilson 870 as long as I could get a NIB 870P for the same or less money, or a good used LE trade-in 870P for even less. But that's just me. I've been shooting 870s for thirty-something years, and have yet to buy a new one. I ordered a new 870P for myself for a 50th birthday present, but the distributor shipped the wrong model and I sent it back and let the idea go.

By "Class 3" I'd guess you mean it's a SBS or NFA model. That doesn't really trip my trigger either, I see no need for paying $200 extra for a few inches less barrel plus putting up with the other NFA hassles. I can do fine with an 18" to 18.5" barrel, the 'house guns' here are right at 37" long overall with a 12.5" LOP stock and an 18" barrel. That's plenty handy, and my 5'4" wife can handle 'em just fine too.

If you like it, you can afford it and you can use it well, then it's fine for your needs. Nothing wrong with getting what you want, that's for sure. But it's too much sugar for a cent for me.

Enjoy it and Stay Safe,

lpl (and if you ever have to use it, try not to worry about what happens to it while it's in the evidence locker)

Lee....any gun would be in the evidence locker after it was used in that way. Yes, its a NFA Gun @ 14 inches. As far as feedback i just wanted to see what people had to say. I`v been shootn Wilson shotguns for years and already owned a few. I see your from NC....i`m from Greensboro.

We're down east in Robeson County not far from Pembroke. Got family all over Tejas and love it out there, mother's mother was born in Maud up in Bowie County in the NE corner of the state, we were in San Antone last summer for a family reunion and will be back in Wichita Falls next year for the 40th annual Cash Family Reunion (this year's in Baton Rouge). Those Texas cousins cook a mean brisket! And down south in The Valley, they have some good dove shooting too. That's the cousins down in Lyford...

Theres a big diff...trust me or buy one and shoot it yourself. Lee....Dove hunting is KING down here lol. I run a Holiday inn Express here if ya ever want to come down and hunt...let me know.

Research em like i did :). Look, its kinda like this....A rolex watch will tell time just like a seiko, but which do you think is made better and will last and will bring a good return back on your investment?

That's what I thought......

I'll stick with PRACTICE & Shooting shotguns.

Best investment

Good shotgun but it costs too much $$$. It is no more reliable than a 590 Mossberg and costs twice as much. For about the same $$$ you could get a FN SLP and out shoot the Wilson every time.

Come on guys....its not a waste of money if its what he wants.

Just because it costs a few more bucks doesn't make it great / but doesn't mean its a waste either. Cheaper isn't necessarily better ....quality has a price .....and he voted with his own money .... I hope he enjoys it.

I choose to carry a $2,500 1911 ...as a concealed weapon / because its the gun I shoot the best .... Losing it, if I ever have to use it, doesn't enter into the equation for me ....I don't care. If I lose it, I lose it ...I have plenty of other nice weapons I can carry after that. Same issue on tactical shotguns / target shotguns, etc ....everybody should buy what they like / vote with their own dollars.

to be fair, it is NOT the same as an express and probably is a little more refined than an 870p...but at what point is an 870p or wingmaster NOT good enough? to mention my personal favorite scattergun, the 590a1. i mean, really. are those subpar guns now?

i personally would never buy a wilson gun (i could get a 590a1, do the upgrades myself and buy a MOUNTAIN of ammo for that price) BUT they are very nice guns. so whether he overpaid or not is irregardless of the fact that he got a sweet shotgun. in the words of mills lane, "i'll allow it".
