opinions on various 9 mm?

I've been thinking about getting a 9, because
I like shooting them, and have larger and smaller calibers. Excluding the Kahr MK9, I've been thinking about the next size up. Most of the interest seems to be on the Kahr K9, but there are several guns in its size category and approximate price range that don't seem to get many comments. I'm curious why. The ones I think about are:

Walther p5. I've heard several folks on the forum say its the sweetest 9mm they've shot. Doesn't seem to get much interest, though.

H&K P7?

STI has a comparable small 9 mm built from 1911 parts, except the barrel. Anybody shot it?

Finally, I could get a 1911 officer's, in 9 mm, which seems quite a reasonable way to go. Anybody use this gun?

IMHO, the main appeal of the 9mm over, say, the .40 or .45 is availability of high-capacity magazines. I don't think most of the guns you mentioned use double-stack magazines. I recently purchased an SW99 9mm (Walther with S&W slide and barrel). I have 16-round mags for it. I also like the CZ line. You might look at a CZ75 Compact - it can be carried "cocked and locked" or used as a traditional double action. High cap magazines for it are available from CDNN (I think) for around $50, and the full-size CZ75 mags fit (but stick out the bottom). These are available for around $40 each from CZ USA (less if your FFL orders them). I'd buy one compact high-cap to carry in the gun, and then carry a couple of full-size mags for reloads. Good luck.

Take a look at the Glock 26. Larger than the MK-9, yet small enough to carry in your pocket, and carries the full "legal limit" of 10 rounds. I think that it is the best concealed carry pistol made. :) It also accepts G17 mags. ;)

The H&K P7 is the finest small 9mm available.

STI makes a real nice gun..........

OK- really dumb question here. I keep hearing the CZ mentioned but it is a 9 x 18 right? You can't use "regular" 9x 19 ammo in it can you?

The Walther P5 is a sweet handgun but only carries 8 in the mag,If I were to use that for carry I would have 2 extra mags with it.
One problem with the P5 though is that it has a bottom mount mag release.I love mine and would never give it up. Another good handgun to look into IMHO is the Beretta Cougar series. I carry the 8040 model. I feel those are good for the money and are good shooters, You can get them in standard or compact and in 9mm,.40 and .45. Another gun I recently purchased is the IMI Baby Eagle in 9mm. That is suppose to be a good shooter also. I haven't had mine to the range yet. Mine came with 2 16 rd. mags. They also come in 9mm,.40 and I believe .45 also. There are 3 sizes in them stand., sub compact and compact. The Baby Eagle looked like a well built gun and I liked the feel, fit my hand well. I guess I wanted a Dessert Eagle but didn't want to spend the big bucks first, so I thought I would try this one out first.
Hope this helps :) Let us know what you decide :)

Happy Shooting :)

I have a Walther P5 fullsize pistol which is sweet to shoot. They are a little bit expensive, I paid $480 for mine nib, you might could do better, and parts and magazines are hard to find. It has a distinctive appearance and the slide release lever doubles as a decocker. It has an eight round single column magazine and the European mag release. If you are interested in one of these, you might also check out the Sig 225. It shoots just as sweet and has the single column magazine with the Amer. style mag release.

The Walther P5 Compact is IMHO the best Walther CCW choice. It has an American mag release & has a slightly shorter barrel/slide. These are very hard to find- & impossible to find cheap. I see one on GunsAmerica for $950. I think you should look at the Kahr P9 also.

I frequently carry a Walther P5 Compact. I still feel it is the finest 9mm CCW pistol out there.

Walther does not import them so thos ethat enter the US are brought in by individuals and then trickle on to the market, but they can be found and not cheaply.

The P5c is worth every penny.

Regarding the CZs:
IT depends on which model you are speaking. I am pretty sure I saw some CZ-75s chambered in 9x19 last month at the gun show.
You may want to check out www.makarov.com and the discussion board there.
By the way, I own a Makarov in 9x18 and love it. It's small, steel, ugly, accurate, utterly reliable, and inexpensive.

If can, buy the CZ-99 (Crvena Zastava) 9mmPara. Sig-Sauer P226 design, reliability in worst weather conditions, heavy slide, very soft recoil, barel chromed inside, one lever for locking slide in rear position, release the the slide and safe release of striker in forward position, indicator for bullet in chamber.Capable for shooting "under" water, you never will go to fish with this gun, but that feature of this gun tells you that the slide is capable of handling the worst conditions (+p, p+.. ammo, md, dust, sand..).
