Opinions on Tikka rifles?

The other day I was in the gun store with my wife, and believe it or not, she decided she really wanted a .223 Tikka they had in stock. It just fit her really well, and she doesn't have a rifle of her own yet.

Not that I can afford it right now, but for future reference, how do you guys like your Tikkas?

It would be scoped, and used for general plinking and punching paper at the range.

Thanks.

I have the Tikka Continental in .308, and it's a great gun. Mine has the best factory stock trigger I've ever seen in a rifle. It's a real tackdriver too, she should be very pleased with the Tikka.

I own a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in .223 and it's a fine rifle. I prefer it to Remington rifles for a walking around varmint rifle and to do predator control duties on my farm. They are quite accurate and well made and I would recommend them. The only concern is the use of plastic for the trigger guard and magazines. If you can live with that, they are the best bargain I've found in a rifle.

Tikkas are made by Sako, one of the best rifle manufacturers in the world.

Out of the box, they are virtually perfect. The amount of R&D that that company conducts on a regular basis is amazing, I heard; and they do not spare themselves when it comes to building a rifle.

A Tikka is a Sako (basically) with a slight modification in the action (2 locking lugs instead of 3), polymer box magazine instead of metal and non-fancy grade wood. Otherwise, you are getting a 1,000-dollar rifle for $500.

In the field, they are extremely accurate, punching sub-MOA groups with boring consistency - they are rugged, durable and hold their value pretty well too.

I give Tikka two big thumbs up.

Too bad it doesn't come in 416 Rigby! :D

416 Rigby:
My Tikka came with a piece of wood much better than a comparably priced Remington or Ruger. Woodpickers can also go up a grade to the Deluxe. My bro-in-law has one with a piece of lumber that looks very fine. I think the Finns know where to find good wood.

Let us know how it works out.

I have the Whitetail in .243 and love it for all the reasons stated above plus it loves the explosive 80 gr. Sierra "single shot pistol bullets". This gun has yet to be beat in our friendly accuracy wars so my friend got the Continental in 22-250 just to keep up.
I'm a "woodpicker" too but this is not the knock out lumber I would like but what I have is acceptable and enjoyable.
