Opinions on the SIG 970SHR (compared to a Tikka Whitetail Hunter)

Hi!
Oh boy...just when I thought I was sold on the Tikka Withetail Hunter, I saw a SIG SHR970 at the shop. I'm looking to get synthetic/blued. Both guns are about the same price range - the SIG's a little higher. I liked the feel of both...I have a few questions regarding the SIG:

1. How does the overall quality compare to the Tikka?
2. Is the barrel Llaflon coated or just certain metal parts?
3. Can you top-load the 4 round mag?
4. I wanted a .308 (which the synthetic Tikka does not come in...so I was ready to settle for a 7mm-08 Tikka). Which caliber do you prefer for medium deer and 300-400 yard target shooting?

Any feedback at all regarding either of these fine rifles is welcome!

Thanks!

By the way, I have a SIG P226 (40S&W) pistol and it is awesome. Are there rifles as good as their pistols?

I haven't fired a Tikka, so I can't compare the two rifles.

Of the two rifles I would get the SIG. I like the versatility of the SIG. If you buy the .308, you can just buy the 7mm-08 and .243 barrels and have three rifles in one.

Purchase either of those rifles and you'll come away a winner. I have the Tikka Whitetail Hunter in .308, (wooden stock), and think it's the best rifle value on the market. It is certainly capable of accuracy beyond my present ability to shoot it.
If you like the Sig and it is available in .308 that may be a major factor in your decision as decent .308 ammo is readily available for a good price.
As I said before you're in a no lose situation.
Take Care
