Opinions on the S&W Model 66?

I have a chance to purchase a blued model in excellent condition for $275. How do these revolvers compare with the venerable 686? Is there anything that I should be aware of?

Thanks,
rock

If its blued, its not a 66, but is a 19. Either way, I love my 66, balances differently than a 686, some prefer one, some the other, but either are excellent firearms.

Did I say blued? I meant SS.:)

Thanks for catching that one, prisoner. And thanks for your opinion. I have 686 already and really like S&W revos for one, and especially 357's.

S&W K-models are good guns, especially the earlier ones. I have a very nice M66. Unless you plan to feed it a steady diet of stout magnum loads it will do just fine.

If you want to shoot lots of magnum loads, get an N-frame.

I have a mod 66 (no dash) 4" barrel and it has the best trigger pull in DA I know. It is a great gun for all sorts of general use.
some plinking, some target, some ccw, little hunting.

Well, I don't have the gun. On the way to the guys house, I called to let him know I was running about 1/2 late and he told me he had just sold it. Such is life.

A model-66 in excellent condition for $275.00, run, don't walk run to the bank. The model-66 retails for about $420.00 new, sounds like a good deal. :)

Sorry you missed out on this excellent buy; as the S&W
model 66 was and is one fine firearm.:(
