Opinions on the New Sig Pro Polymer Pistol

Just curious about the Sig Pro. I am a Glock man myself, but I have noticed that Sig is advertising the heck out of the Sig Pro polymer pistol.

My only observation is that my dealer has had a Sig Pro 2340 in his show case for a long time (540 buck I think) and has had little customer interest in it.

It seems like a fine pistol and has some good write ups, but I don't think it is selling all that well.

I want to try one out but around here ranges don't make range rental guns out of a $500+ SIG. I would probably get one if I could just put a few hundred rounds through one to get a feel for it. Wish I knew someone local that owned one.

If anyone in the Atlanta area knows of a range that DOES rent the SIGPRO, please let me know.

bad_dad_brad,

I guess I will weigh in my opinions on the Sig Pro line. I bought one back in Oct. 99, and it was my first handgun. It was great to start with, until a few FTF's and a couple of jams. Not exactly the kind of behavior I was looking for in a CCW. Plus, for me it was a touch too heavy.

I recently traded in the Sig for a G23, and I have 0 regrets about it. IMHO, stick with Glocks.

I just bought one in.40 cal plan on getting a 357sig barrell also. but anyway the gun is great. shoots great and no jams at all!!
Got it for 515.00 new with 3 10 round mags.

Greetings Bad Dad, I don't like the SigPro
series handguns at all. The one's that I
have examined feel like what most folks
first thought of about Glock's; "Combat
Tupperware". Before I would invest in a
SigPro, I would save some extra cash and
purchased a Sig-Sauer "P" series; such as
the P220, P226, P228, or the P229. The "P"
series handguns are "world famous", for
out of the box craftsmanship, dependability,
and accuracy. Some will argue that they don't
like the finish on Sig's. If properly taken
care of; this is not a problem, and I own
the four aforementioned "P" series handguns.
This is the "scoop" as I see it; hope this
helps some!!!

Out of all the polymer pistols, I liked the handling of the Sigpro the best because it feels like a P-series, accurate and reliable. I agree with Ala Dan, in either saving a few more bucks and buying a new P-series or look for a used one. I see the Sigpro as an economy version of the P-series if you just can't fork out the change for the latter.

For what's its worth, I put 100 rounds of 40 through one. Nothing special, not worth
a premium over a Glock and the package is too big as compared to the G27.

Sorry, but this is not a SIG to me. I prefer the feel of the P220/6. I could not shoot it as well as other sigs. Maybe just me. I like the Glock, but if I weren't so used to it I would get the Walther 99.

bad_dad,

Take a look at the Steyr M40's. It's more Glock than a Glock. All the Glock goodies (3 internal safeties, Tenifer finish) and everything that Glock will never have,

Fully Supported Chamber in the .40
Triangle sights
2 external safeties
lower bore axis

One of my students bought one as her first semi-auto. I was very impressed with it. It shot a ragged hole at 25' offhand. She did have a bit of trouble limp wristing, as you would with any semi. I actually like it better than the Sig P series as far as ergonomics. They were selling fairly well here in MA before the ban. Best price I've seen is at www.fourseasonsguns.com which was around $480 with three mags.
