Opinions on Taurus Millenium Series?

Just wanting to know what you think about Taurus' Millenium series of auto pistols.

Has anybody tried out one of the .45 ACP ones???

I have a .40 caliber PT 140. It's hard to shoot accurately.

Only one magazine came with the pistol, and Taurus has not been able to supply me with additional magazines since January. Every time I call and ask, they say the magazines are still on backorder.

On the ones I've handled the trigger is too long and too gritty. But that has been the case with most of the newer pocket pistols I've handled recently.

I like mine. It's reliable, accurate, and very good for CCW. I've shot hundreds of hollowpoints through it without a problem. $299 NIB Stainless. I also was able to order two extra magazines from a local dealer and they arrived in 3 days.

Dave,

Personally, I can't recommend them. I have not tried the .45ACP version but I used to own a PT111 9mm. It broke after firing only about 300 rounds and required sending to Taurus to repair. On the plus side, they did fix it promtly but my confidence in the little pistol was gone. I swaped it for a Kel-Tec P11 9mm which has a better trigger and is a bit smaller.

I am still a fan of Taurus' products and I own one of their revolvers and a PT92 but my opinion is that the Millenium series may not be ready for prime time.

Just my $.02 worth.

Dave,

I have a stainless PT 111 (9mm), with about 500-600 rounds through it. Only glitch so far was from lead handloads, when a lead shaving jambed in the chamber, and prevented the slide from going into full battery.

The trigger has smoothed up a little, but will never be good!

The gun is suprisingly accurate from a rest, but difficult to shoot accurately offhand, because of the trigger.

The good points are it's size, weight, and quality construction. Solid little gun, that's easy to clean, and holds 10 rounds.

Bought mine (NIB) from a lady friend who needed some money quick, and asked $50! I gave her $75, and still felt a little guilty, so I offered to let her have it back for that price within 90 days. She never took me up on the offer. :)

Hi Joe,

Mine is still going strong!

I called Taurus a few days ago, and asked how to get the firing pin assembly out of the slide, to check the bushing you had fail. The tech said they won't even release drawings, because they don't want people taking them apart.

Bought an Uncle Mike's IWB holster to carry it around the place, but won't venture out without a carry permit. :)

Bill,

Glad yours is still working properly. I still don't know if the problem I had was out of the ordinary but I have heard from more than a few people that have had to send theirs back for repairs. Since my reason for buying it in the first place was for CCW reliability was my ultimate concern. I can live with a pistol that jams or breaks (though I wouldn't be happy :)) if it's just a range gun but for something I'm going to carry with me for defense I need to have confidence that it will work if I need it to.

As for taking that firing pin bushing out, I still have no idea how that is done. There has to be a way but I sure couldn't figure it out. Probably just as well. I don't think any cleaning or polishing would make any difference in the failure rate of that part.

Did you ever get that magazine extension to rest your little finger on? Just wondering.

I have the 9mm. I did have a problem with my trigger when I first bought it, but I've not heard of anyone else having this type of problem. Taurus fixed it up and its been a gem ever since.

Darn Joe, Here is another one I missed! :)

Put another box through the Taurus, and it's still working. I only carry it around the house, so it's not a prime concern for me.

Never did find one of those grip extensions, but mine is pretty comfortable the way it is, so it would have to be pretty cheap. :)

Better go look for more missed messages!

Bill,

I think the finger rest that snaps on the magazine is only a couple of dollars.

I know what you mean about missing messages. I have that problem also.

Joe,

I haven't been to a gun show in a while, but I'll look for those grip extensions next visit.

This was another message section that said no new messages since your last visit (yellow square), yet here was this message from you!!! Guess I'm going to have to do a search of all topics every visit! PITA!
