Opinions on Taurus M94

I saw an older Taurus M94 .22lr 9 shot small framed revolver blued for sale. It had a 4" half lug bbl with wood grips. It seemed new and was being sold as new. After calling Taurus to do a manfacture date check on the serial number, they told me it was made in March of 1995.

Has anyone had any experiences with this particular model? Are the older models from 1995 better, worse or the same in quality as the current generation of M94s with full lug bbls and rubber grips?

This might just be the .22lr plinking revolver that I'm looking for. It's like a miniature S&W K22. I don't see many options for nice plinking revolvers that are still in production. The S&W 617 is too much gun for just a .22lr and the Ruger SA only cowboy guns and SP101 don't tickle my fancy.

Lastly, they're selling it for $325. Is that too much? How low should I try to talk them down to and if they won't budge should I take it anyway? I'm in CA so I'd like to get this transaction done before the year is over. Time is not on my side. This is why I haven't been able to get my hands on a K22 because of CAs certified handgun sale law. So I figure this might be my last chance at picking up a neat little .22lr plinking revolver.

Price seems high! I gave $280 for my pre-17, and it's twice the gun compaired to the Taurus (IMHO). Later model 17's can be had for those numbers.

I bought a M94 in 1990. It was OK. I recently sold it (maybe 100 rounds fired) for $185.

Your biggest problem is that you live in the Occupied Territory. Move.

From the replies I've gotten here and on other message boards -- I've pretty much been talked out of buying the Taurus M94.

Which doesn't leave me with much choices left. Walther P-22 or S&W 617. I really want another .22lr and already have a Browning Buck Mark. I'd like another revolver in my collection to keep my S&W M10 company. I have a lot of semi-autos, but only 1 revolver, the M10.

However, I like the P-22 because of it's size and accessories I can get for it. I can only buy 1 more for the remainder of this year and for as long as I live in CA.

If I can pick up a S&W K22 then I'll get the P-22. If I can't find a K22 then should I get a S&W 617 or the P-22? I probably won't shoot the 617 much at all because of it's size and weight. But it's a nice piece just to have in my collection.

It's not a bad revolver. I wouldn't pay more than $250 for it though. My dad has one that is currently in my care (and I use that word loosely). I've shot quite a lot of ammo through it, usually quite quickly I've run 300+ rounds through it in one fast session. Around 150+rds, you may get failures to fire due to dirt and grit overwhelming the tiny action. You may also have extraction difficulties as rims slip under tiny extractor star. I didn't consider this unusual, as most of my .22 autos jam much earlier. It is quite accurate (I can hit soda cans at 25yds with it). I just have the same hangup with it, that I do with all .22 revolvers. Why are they so expensive? A decent Browning or Ruger .22 auto only runs about $225-250.

Take a look at the Taurus 970. It is the Tracker format. I think it looks better made than the 94 plus is sure is prettier. I have one and find it to be a fine 22.

I've had my M94 for many moons now. It's no target gun, but it is alot of fun to shoot & is capable of pretty decent accuracy. 500 rounds goes by quickly even w/o mags!
