Opinions on Nikons BDC reticle?

excellent scope!

The BDC is only a true reference point at a certain magnification (will be a small dot on that magnification markings on the outside of the scope) due to where it sits on the focal plane.

Still this scope is a great scope with excellent glass and will last you a long time with no problems, if you ever do have problems just send it back and they will repair or replace if it is there fault.I have always had great luck with my Nikons and only had to send one (a prostaff) back due to a problem holding zero. They shipped me a new scope in return and have not had any problems with the replacement.

if you can afford the monarch I would also look at the monarch UCC. A little better light transmission, but otherwise the same scopes. It really depends on whether or not you need the extra light tansmission.

My application will be shooting paper for groups at distances from 100-300 yards. Do you think the BDC will be useful or just an annoyance?

at first useful, but later with experience, it becomes an annoyance. A post or duplex is what you should be lookin for.

Mil-dot is ok, basicly a duplex with dots at predefined spots to help in determining windage or elevation quickly.

The niko plex is good as well and a bit cheaper than the BDC.
