May pickup a mint. Kel-Tec 9mm. I assume it's the P 11. It'll be my first handgun. What are your general opinions on them? Thanks!!!

Use the search function on this site and check out some of the past threads, it has been discussed quite often. I think you will find that most who own one are very satisfied with it.

Very, very, very pleased with my P32 and my buddy loves his P11. Yes, a long and heavy trigger, but no worse than a DA revolver.

Trigger pull is horrible, which adversely affects accuracy, particularly when you're in a hurry (eg a self-defense situation).
I wouldn't have one myself.

Happy

I'm very happy with my P-11. I've had it for about 6 months, shot over 1000 rounds. Agreed, the trigger is long, but easy to get used to. I picked mine up for $219 NIB at a Gun Show and I've been very pleased with it. I haven't had any problems that you hear other people complain about. It is one of the more recent ones off of the line (115,XXX) so I would like to think that they have their "quality control problems" behind them. Mine is accurate at the distances that people normally associate with CCW. As with any weapon, it takes practice to become familiar and accurate. Hope you have the same experience as I have!

Kel-Tec P11 is a winner!

Don't listen to the negative hype. Most complainers (but not all) have never owned one or think a gun has to be $500 or more to be quality. While there are few guys here at TFL who have an honest reason to complain (from bad experiences) alot of them are just jumping on the bandwagon.

Mine has been accurate and 100% reliable right out of the box. The trigger is only bad if you have a weak trigger finger, it's long for sure but quite smooth. Slapped on a pinky extension and a trigger shoe and couldn't be happier. Perfect concealed carry 9mm.

I like the P11. It is sized right. Functions flawlessly with many types of factory plus my reloaded ammo.

It is the only s/a handgun that between me and my aquaintances handguns(Kahr,Glock, HK, CZ and some others) that has never had a FTF or FTE when at the range. I think they are the handgun bargain of the decade.

Go for it...

I owned the 40 S&W version of that pistol and it was a failure. Jams, broken parts, finger damage.

HOWEVER, there was much about the general design, size and shot capacity that I liked. The trigger is difficult but I got used to it.
Even though the 40 was a flop, I would and am considering a P32 and/or a P11.

Reason,

Given that I can be convinced ----by experience----- either of these models will be 100% reliable I would use either as my CH.
If the worst happens, the Police will likely never return the piece.
I'd rather donate a 200 dollar KelTec to the furnace than one of my more cherished and expensive pistols.

Expensive guns and cheap guns can both have problems. NO MAKER IS PERFECT and contrary to what you might be lead to believe in many circles, now and again they all turn out a lemon or two or ones that have some kind of issue.
If its not reliable (and I incorporate dependable accuracy in that) its a worthless POC that may get you killed regardless of the name it carries. I wish I could say that spending top dollar ALWAYS guarentees a reliable, accurate, you-name-it wonder gun. Sadly, in 35 years of buying, selling and using all kinds of firearms from every major (and minor and foreign) maker that hasn't always been the case.
Some folks will say you get what you pay for and from experience I'd say they are right about 90% of the time. My best and worst came in the 10%.

I have a P-32 and a P-40 and they both have been flawless in their function and performance. I sent the P-40 back for hard chroming and night sights and it's a jewel and gets carried a lot.

The trigger pull doesn't bother me. In a self-defense situation, when my adrenaline level is high, I want to have a hard to pull trigger. Also, when carrying the pistol in a holster in my pocket, I want a hard to pull trigger for safety. I've gotten a little better with practise, but it just takes some work to get accurate with it. I've seen someone shoot my Kel-Tec well, so I know the accuracy problem is my fault and not the pistol's.

I've got a P-32 that has been a source of nonstop problems. Kel-Tec on the phone, while polite and pleasant, has been zero help. Here's a few pictures of mine: users.upstate.net/zoom/P-32/. I sent it back, and Kel-Tec did not replace the frame or the barrel. I just don't think they care about what they're shipping or the problems their customers have. You did ask for opinions...z

I love my P32 I have about 500 rounds thru it with no problems. And pretty accurate too.

I have a P-11 that I use and abuse on a daily basis. I wouldn't be caught without it. (A big :p to all you naysayers) But I'm not sure I would recommend it for a "first" handgun. It takes alot of practice to shoot it well, and it's not the gentlest little pistol.

Sub-40 YES

P11 No, KT seems to have given up on fixing them

Better get your dremel out and be prepared to send it back to the factory.

Love my KTs but I did have to send my P-32 back - they left too much material on the inside of the slide rails. So they removed the excess and the P-32 shoots and carries like a dream.

If you want an afforable 9mm, try a used Kahr E-9 or K-9 or a police trade in G26/G19.

But the P11s just don't have the fit and polish to them.

In my experience and from what I've seen with other folks who actually own P11s is that it is hands down the BEST choice in semi-autos available when balancing tradeoffs between price, weight, firepower, caliber, size/concealability, and reliability. Buy the belt clip for the ultimate in concealability.

The trigger is awful, but the trigger shoe Keltec sells makes it less awful. I've owned HK P7, USP; Sig 220; CZ75; Glock 27, 23, Kahr K9 -- and I'd trust my P11 (my everyday carry gun) as much as any of them.
