was looking at one for a 'camp gun' or 'automobile gun...thought about the .40 but can get a good deal on the 9mm. Maybe this should be in the 'Handgun'area?!?!?

or how bout a Cobrey? Just wondering-please don't slam me. :)

I thought that Hi-Point carbine was a junky piece of trash until a buddy of mine showed me a target he shot with one:

3" group at 125 yards.

In my mind, it's not a bad gun at all for the money (should be able to get one for no more than $150), and they are as reliable as all get out.

I don't own one, but I don't like carbines.

They look like hell, are cheap as nails, and work every single time. Which is the most important?

They do look cheap...They do feel cheap, but at 70+yard I was able to put all ten shot in the forehead of a sillouete(sp?). These were double taps . It was an accurate fun plinker and I miss it dearly. For the money of a .22 you get 9mm so I can't say anything bad about it. Too bad they didn't make a way to put a different stock on it(it's kinda wierd looking) and the plastic trigger kinda turned me off. But that said I just couldn't kill it and had no problems after 400+rds of various ball ammmo. Watch the sling swivels as they tend to spread and drop your carbine at the most inoppertune moments......TONY

I liked using the carbine: lower recoil than Marlin/Ruger. Accuracy: at 15m off-hand all shots were in the same hole. I had no chance to shoot at longer ranges. The two guns I shot were 100% reliable with a variety of ammo. Good peep sights.

Owning one...not sure. Cleaning is hard as they don't take down. Repairs are almost impossible, shades of some cheapo .22s.

I got one about six months ago. At the time, I thought it was just going to be a "toy" and it probably still is, but I got the laser sight they offer for it and it's a pretty tough looking "tactical" weapon. I wouldn't count on it past 50-75 yards, but it's still fun to shoot. A number of local LEO have them as "unofficial" backup weapons in their cars. For the money - get one, have fun shooting it, and don't plan on MOA groups.

P.S. If you order at least $100 of stuff from Hi-Point, they'll send you a nifty t-shirt.

sounding better and better...i'm looking at some auctions...thse are running around a hundred but they are reserve. At the gunshop where I first saw one they were about $180,

So I'm figuring around $150 plus shipping/FFL. Maybe that's what I'll tell the family I want for my BD gift since they won't stop asking....actually, that's pointless-I always get whatever they decide I should have. ;)

Ohhh...plus it's a gun...the dad is kewl bout it but the mom is a anti-frek. [[At least she don't vote or go on the MMM against em tho. ]]

I have owned one for a year. It is a very nice gun, shoots well and doesnt take much to clean and maintaine. There use to be a problem with the front sight screw comeing loose , but that has been fixed. I have not had any feed problems and it will shoot any ammo I have tried. They say it doesnt have to be fully striped down for 2,000 rounds. I stil havent done it and it has not failed me yet. I will run a bore snake throught it after I shoot but that is about it. I havew heard all the comments about it, it is a toy, its toi cheap, not accurate. I like it and it is blast to shoot. I have also heard that several police depts. are useing them also.

I had mine for a little over 5 years. It was real accurate to 100 yardw with peep sights but after the 2nd trip back to Hi-Point (on lifetime warranty) I traded it in last week for a CZ 75B pistol.

A guy brought one of the 9mm models to Knifegnugen last year, and tried to compete with it in the Carbine shoot.
It failed miserably, didn't feed or function at all.
His dad had a Tec-nine, of all things, and it screwed the pooch in a big way as well.

That is the only one I have any personal experience with, other than gagging every time I see one on a gunrack at a store.
They are extremely ugly, and poorly made.

IMHO they are garbage.

A friend of mine has one that I`ve had some experience with. It`s VERY cheaply made. A $40 Walmart airgun will have a more solid feel and probably be constructed of better materials. His wasn`t very reliable so I took it apart, polished the short feedramp and cleaned up a LOT of casting flash on the CAST bolt. After this it`s been about 95% reliable with hardball but still chokes pretty often on JHPs. All this being said,it really shoots pretty darn well. It`s great fun to use on bowling pins at 25yds. rapid fire. As a *toy* I think it`s worth the money but I wouldn`t want to count on one for defense. Marcus

I shot a buddy's a couple of years ago. For as cheap as it looks and uuuuuugggglllly, it shot everything I put into it, ball and various hp. Fairly accurate, and an absolute ball to shoot.

Pretty good buy considering the HiPoint handgun's reputation.
