Opinions on Glock 36?

I am hoping to purshase a new gun soon, primarily for CCW.
I am deciding between 10mm or .45, as I have no guns of either caliber.
What are your opinions on the G36? 6 shots is really miniscule, but the guy at www.remtek.com/arms seems to think its the best Glock yet.
I have a Glock 19, and I love it. I dont want a gun that has high cap mags, mainly because they are so damned expensive, and I dont want to waste any effeciency by having a lower amount of ammo than possible.

Thanks foryour opinions =)

You said: "6 shots is really miniscule".

I am compelled to respectfully disagree. An amazing number of very experienced hand-gunners constantly carry revolvers -- even five shot snubbies -- are their primary defensive weapon. Our TFL archives will thoroughly document this fact.

I have repeatedly read that the average non-LEO gunfight involves less than three rounds fired. Accordingly, I respectfully suggest that the G36's six round magazine capacity is adequate, probably in 98+ percent of reasonable defensive scenarios.

By the way, as you know the G36 has a 6+1 aggregate capacity, not that I particularly like or trust Glock's "trigger on the trigger" safety system.

Relying on a 2 shot Derringer in .45ACP is miniscule :)
6+1 is what I carry most times, in my Kahr P40... If you plan to get into THAT much trouble, carry a spare mag, or get a Glock 30. I don't see enough width reduction to warrant giving up 4 shots, but if it's more comfortable in your hand, then go for it!

People either LOVE or HATE the 36, I've encountered no inbetweeners....

I also wonder why chose the 36 for carry. The 19, although a 9mm, is roughly the same size as the 36... Can you carry your 19 comfortably? If not, I'd look to the 26, since I don't worry about 9mm being "not enough", it holds exactly 10 rounds un-neutered, is the same width as the 36, uses the same ammo you already have, takes the 19 mags in a pinch, (I'm overdoing it, aren't I?) I guess it all depends on whether your PRIMARY concern is best concealment or new/bigger caliber....

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I love my 36... Very accurate and very concealable, I bought it for carry since my 23 (which is the same size as a 19) was a little too bulky for carry in the hot and humid weather of Fl.

Those that think that a 36 is no easier to carry than a 19/23 have no real experience. If concealing can be a problem go w/ a 36, if you live in an area where you can conceal a 30 then buy that.

I've owned and carried a 36 for about six months before I had to part with her. It was an extremely reliable pistol and easy to conceal. I've only had a few complaints....

1. Magazine pinch. The thing pinched me when firing. Some users have reported that this dissapears after some time, but I used gloves for extended shooting sessions.

2. Dented Cases. I've had a lot of cases that were dented slightly during the loading process while hand cycling the cases. The high bullet feed angle caused the rim of the case being loaded to dig into to the next cartridge in the magazine. I don't know if any other owners have experienced this. She also had a tendency to dent up the case mouths upon extraction.

Other than that she was a 100 percent reliable pistol. Most of the folks look at book measurements of a G36 vs G30 and think "hmm..there isn't enough difference to justify the loss of 3-4 rounds." I can tell you definitely tell you that the small difference in book numbers can make a world of difference in carry comfort and percieved weapon size. You can't make a decision by a book..you just have to put one on your hip.

I've grown accustomed to carrying a Hi Power in the absence of my G36...I had to sell her..:( , but she will be replaced with a G30. My biggest decision is the larger availability of aftermarket parts and barrels. Plus shooting the .45 Super tactical or 400 corbon probably isn't a very good idea in the lighter G36. The slide mass is definitely smaller.

Good Shooting

Bar-Sto and Jarvis have barrels coming out for the 36 in the next few months... I think I'm going to have Bar-Sto make me a nice 4 1/2" barrel and get it ported.

Cool.
Thanks for the replys.
I actually have a 15+2 magazine for my G19, which makes it an adequate carry weapon, I truthfully just wanted a larger caliber for carry.
I will have to compare G36 and G30 in hand before I make a decision. Thanks for your input, though.

My handguns: Glock 19, Ruger P95DC, Sig P226 .40/.357 sig, Llama .380.
I also have readily available access to a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, and a few large revolvers.
