Opinions on Desantis Nemesis holster

I am considering a Desantis Nemesis holster for my J frame 342PD. I have been reading quite a bit about them, but it seems that people mostly carry in the front pocket. I am curious about how it works for those who carry in the rear pocket. I mostly wear jeans when not in uniform and have carried the same gun in an older generic leather holster in my rear pocket for quite some time now. The holster is shot and its really time to get something mission specific for this type of carry.

So, is there anyone out there that carries a J frame (or something similar) in a Desantis Nemesis in the REAR POCKET of their jeans? I'd be curious to hear what you think if you do (fit, draw, concealability, etc.).

Thanks!

I have a Nemesis for my Ruger LCP and (pre-recall), I used to wear it in my back pocket. It can tend to print a little and show somewhat of an outline of the pistol, but I don't think anyone's ever noticed. It depends on what I'm wearing, frankly. In jeans, it tends to print more. In Dockers or trousers, it's fine. In cargos, you can't tell. Again, this is for me specifically. YMMV, of course.

They make a version called the SuperFly that is basically the Nemesis with an extra guard that prevents any printing. I checked one out and it was too big for the pockets in my jeans and trousers.

As for draw, it draws fine from the rear pocket. Practicing draws, the holster never came out with the gun and the draw was smooth.

Sorry, but my skinny 50 year old arse does not facilitate hiding much of anything in my back pocket.

However, I am a fan of the Desantis Nemesis in my front pocket for everything from a j-frame to a 3" 1911.

And if you can't make it work, I'd sure like to buy your 342...if it is a pre-lock :)

I use a Nemesis for my Beretta 21A and it only rides in the back pocket. Front pocket carry seems awkward and the back pocket carry looks just like a wallet. It's also much easier to get the pistol out from the back pocket.

I carry an LCP in a Nemesis in my back pocket.

I never understood front pocket carry. It is cumbersome, and everyone sees you carrying something large in your pocket (especially if it's a revolver) so it makes almost no sense.

It's also harder to get to unless you have VERY loose pants and/or VERY large pockets.

With it in your back pocket, you can act as if you're reaching for your wallet if the baddie is holding you up, only to come out with a nice surprise (of course only if the situation allows for this reaction), so that's where I carry mine.

Holster sits in place perfectly, and never tries to come out with the draw. Nicely made and nicely priced IMO.

In jeans, especially ones that fit, it would be impossible. In pleated khakis or military-type cargo pants, it'd be easy. It depends. My only suggestion to anyone is to try and stick with one way of doing it, so as not to be stuck in the "Let's see, it's Tuesday, so I'm carrying my gun cross draw outside the waistband... No, wait, that's Wednesdays..." situation.

I carry my 638 in one, and I'm not a huge fan of the design of it. It seems to keep the pistol kinda high up in my pocket, and it's bulky.

I prefer to keep it in my back pocket when I'm wearing a jacket, or in the pocket of my jacket.

Rear pocket? No, I don't like sitting on a gun.

I do use one to hide a PF-9 in a front pants pocket occasionally. It conceals well, and draws fine.

I usually carry a bigger gun IWB though.

Sitting on a J-Frame would be positively painful, in my opinion. The LCP in a DeSantis in the back pocket is no problem. And the Nemesis is a quality product. So if you can stand back pocket carry of your S&W, Nemesis is a good choice.

I don't like to sit on things and it is bad for your back. Also in large crowds pickpockets would be looking in your back pocket and could get your gun instead. Some people also stand with their hands in their front pockets so it looks natural and yet you are armed and ready to go if the need arises.

I've used hip pocket jeans carry for a long time. After trying just about everything I use the Uncle Mikes #3 with a J Frame 342 or 642 and boot grips. I prefer the gun to be angled as much as possible (think FBI tilt) so the muzzle is pointing at the mid line and the grip is towards the outside. For me this places the cylinder so I am not sitting directly on it, aligns the grip with the angle of the drawing hand and it keeps the gun low in the pocket.

Another excellent rear pocket holster is the Mika's round bottom pocket holster. It actually allows re holstering in the pocket. I've recently started to use one of these and so far I like it.

The Nemisis holds the gun vertical and after a few months wear I found the holster molded to the gun and tended to come out with the gun.

A problem with hip pocket carry in jeans is over time you will wear the outline of the muzzle into the bottom of the pocket unless the holster smooths it out.

Thanks for all of the input and opinions...I like the varying views on this mode of carry. I have been carrying back pocket for a long time. It has just come time to replace the holster it currently rides in (Aker 110 - made for concealed BP vest carry but has worked far better as a pocket holster) and I was hoping the Nemesis might work out. I admit, the J frame is not the best weapon to sit on, but its not much better IWB, I do not like front pocket carry (for the reasons jlwman & BanditSRT8 mentioned), and ankle holsters are from times forgotten.

I think I may give it a try. For $14.99, its not a huge risk. Thanks again for the opinions and help. :)

Nemesis holster

I agree with Tamara, the holster works best with loose fitting pants. It doesn't work for me when wearing jeans. So with jeans I carry something else.

Don't you back-pocket people have to sit down? to drive? to eat? seems counter-intuitive to me, as well as painful ... I carry my PM9 in the front pocket of cargo shorts (I'm retired and shorts are all I wear all summer) ... it works well, keeps the gun from printing and makes sure the grip's up if I need it ... as for the "here's my wallet" trick, I'd just tell the baddie I keep my cash in my front pocket in a clip, then reach for it ... probably work just as well, which is to say not that well if the baddie got past the second grade ...

642 in a nemesis front pocket..... I have a problem with some pants with shallow pockets which pushes the grip up and almost out of the pocket.
None of the jeans I wear have large enough rear pockets to carry in.
Front pocket carry isnt bad and after you get used to it you dont realize its even there.

Stop wearing spandex and it will be comfortable enough...:D Seriously, just don't wear tight fitting pants and you'll be fine. Look for the relaxed pants next time you're buying a pair, put them on, slip the pistol in the back pocket and all will be right with the world...:)
