Opinions on Browning Hi-Power 9mm

From a practical stand point, for carry, SD, and HD there is a multitude of better options. For beauty, class, and pride of ownership there aren't many better options,IMO. Sometimes I just take mine out of the drawer or safe and just handle it and admire it. Mine has the quirk of hammer-bite, but that is a part of BHP. I feel the same way about the 1911.

I find the sights on my browning to be redundant......the P35 shoots to the point of aim my mind wants it to....it IS...the handgun of choice for dark nights/point shooting.......

I had one in the 1980's. a Mark 2 model. Very accurate, somewhat heavy trigger. I developed a crack in the frame for some reason. Personally, while I like the Hi Power, I think that the reputation somewhat exceeds the nature of the weapon. I think the high capacity was the main attraction to the gun, and the reliability. All things being equal, I think that the Glock 9mm is a better weapon.

Depending on what you're used to, the experience can vary.
Coming from a 1911 background, I don't like the trigger, don't really like the sights, the grip feels very square.
Compared to the guns KMAX is referring to, it's probably heaven.

I have owned, shot, reloaded for and carried Hi Powers on and off since the '60s. I guess you could say I'm kind of a fan of these pistols. So here are my admittedly biased comments. I have found them to be reliable, accurate and durable, with excellent ergonomics. The MkIIIs since about '89 are, IMHO, especially good as guns that will actually be shot rather than just collected, etc. The MKIIIs have good sights, more usable thumb safeties, excellent reliability with any quality factory or reloaded ammunition, etc. I've owned a number of Hi Powers over the years, and still have a few. All just work, don't remember when, if ever, I had a malfunction with any of my current Hi Powers....ymmv

The HiPower was the last and arguably the best John Browning handgun design. It was the natural evolution of a master designer, taking the best of previous designs (including the 1911), and improving them, correcting flaws from previous designs (including the 1911), and refining it to its Zenith.

It was superior in so many ways to its contemporaries and predecessors and was arguably the finest pistol of its time.

One would be hard pressed to find a high quality handgun manufactured since that doesn't incorporate one of more of Browning's innovations and his brilliance culminated in the P1935 Browning HiPower.

That having been said, it's a bit dated by today's standards, as are many of his designs (including the 1911), but about everything that has out paced him includes one or more elements of his invention.

Still, there is always room in the safe for one more (or two or three).

Go for it.

God's nudge !!

If you are being pushed, then it's the devil. If it's more of a "nudge", that's God pointing you in the right direction. He knows your wants and just working on "his" agenda and schedule. ..... ;)

Be Safe !!!

The Hi Power is about as ugly as a gun can get.

:) you don't see any of the BHP in a P226? I sure do

But in any case, you ain't seen a lot of guns if you think the BHP is bottom of the pile for looks! :D

:) Browning did not finish the design. the BHP is also partly the design of Dieudonné Saive. Browning died before the refinement of the pistol. Browning's prototype looks very different from the BHP as we know it. Don't forget, JMB died in 1926

As soon as Glock will make a copy of BHP all things will become equal. Not seeing it happening any time soon.

You probably think Pontiac Aztec was a good looking vehicle :D

My experience as well, especially shooting in the dark. Point, fire. As easy as that. Night sights? Why bother?

arguably the best looking auto of all time
The most perfect 9mm ever produced.
And here is your answer!

Ibmikey,
I read the posts that you are referring to and upon performing extensive scientific research I believe I did uncover some information which might be relevant.

According to Wiki:
A hallucination is a perception in the absence of apparent stimulus that has qualities of real perception. Hallucinations are vivid, substantial, and located in external objective space. They are distinguished from the related phenomena of dreaming, which does not involve wakefulness; illusion, which involves distorted or misinterpreted real perception; imagery, which does not mimic real perception and is under voluntary control; and pseudohallucination, which does not mimic real perception, but is not under voluntary control.[1] Hallucinations also differ from "delusional perceptions", in which a correctly sensed and interpreted stimulus (i.e., a real perception) is given some additional (and typically bizarre) significance.
