Opinions on Beretta AL390 12 gauge

There is a local guy offering to sell me a beretta AL390.

Thoughts and opinons on this gun? I have never seen or shot one. I think im gonna ask if he will let me shoot it first to see how well it would fit me. What do you guys think about it? Anyone have one?

The Beretta 390, with its next generation gas system, dethroned the R-1100 as the king of the auto-loading competition shotguns.
 
Then I may have to pick it up...Whats a good price for a used AL390 these days? He told me he would sell his $500 firm. Deal or not?

The newer version is the 391 series ....but nothing wrong with the 390 series either. They did make some improvements with the 391 on the gas system.

Price depends on condition ....can't evaluate without a photo very well. But it seems like a decent price .....but in realilty its worth what he'll sell it for / and what you'll pay for it.... and if you look at the current 391 offerings ....there are at least a dozen different models ...so it depends ..
 
IMHO, never pass up an opportunity to shoot a gun, before you buy, to evaluate fit and function. If the seller doesn't want you to give a used gun a try, then you've got to wonder why.

I have a couple and have had a few others. Gas guns don't come better, though some may be as good. I also own a 391, and it is not a better gun. Mine shoots flawlessly, but so has every 390 I've shot, and the 390 is a lot easier to clean - and not everyone has had my luck with 391s. I don't think I've ever read a complaint about a 390. I'd pay a premium for a clean 390.
 
I've had one for over a decade. It has been to Arkansas for ducks; trips to Canada for geese, ducks and upland; quail hunts in south Georgia and has spent many a days in the dove field in Alabama. I've never had a problem. Great gun. Though I do well with it shooting sporting clays and trap, I got tired of picking up hulls and picked up a Browning OU. The 390 is my hunting gun and it looks like it 0 it's got character.
