Opinions on a locking handgun case for my car?

I need to buy a small case for my car where I can lock my handgun up when I can't carry into the Post Office or the Courthouse, etc. I've seen a couple online. I prefer the type that has a combination as opposed to a key.

Does anyone have experience with these? Any recommendations?

I have a key lock version of this http://www.glockworld.com/item/173596___SECURE_IT_SECURITY_BOX_CO.aspx and really like it - the cable allows securing it to the seat frame in the truck, to the luggage frame for travel, and to something in hotel rooms if you can't carry. The small one like I have fits my J-frame just fine and I also used it for small semi-autos when I carried those. However - it is only a deterent agains theft - some heck bent knucklehead will eventually be able to break it loose and steal it if they want.

I lock mine up there too. Yup.
 
Thanks Ian.....brilliant! I'll just buy a new car with a lock on the glove box. Nothing personal, but if you can't answer the questions that was asked.....why answer at all?
 
I have the Short Hinge Combination version from Center of Mass. It's fine. As advertised. I keep it cabled under the passenger seat. It's handy enough.
I only keep the combo a couple of #'s off so I can have access quickly and easily. Don't use it a lot, but it's nice to have the option, and it's only $40+.
 
Using a locking glove box to secure an item is about the same as leaving a pile of money on the ground with a sign that says "Please do not steal."

It's a nice concept, but leaves everything to be desired in terms of security.

The ugly truth is that most glove boxes, even when locked, can be opened in a few seconds with a screwdriver, or even one's bare hands.

To a smash and grab thief, a locked glove box signals one thing -- GOODIES INSIDE! CONCENTRATE ON ME!

If you're going to leave your gun in your car, leave it in something secure.

Right, bouncing around in there is really good for it. And the heavy duty secure lock on car glove boxes is burglar proof, even if your car, that Bubba is now sitting in, isn't. And, of course, having a gun where you might have to reach for registration and insurance to hand to the officer who's watching your every move is a great idea---what could go wrong there?:rolleyes:



I use the Center of Mass. Haven't tried the finger print version, but my key version has worked fine for me for some time now. A friend has the hand safe that he bolted to the floor of his truck behind the seat.
