Opinions: New Kimber Pro Elite for $825?

While perusing a local dealer's display of .45s the other day, I glanced at what I first took to be a Kimber CDP. Then I realized that while it had the melt treatment, the nightsights, and the rosewood grips, this particular pistol had a black slide on a silver frame --- the opposite color combination of the CDP. Price tag said (new in box) Kimber Pro Elite $899.

I buy from this dealer often and I send a lot of business his way, so he normally gives me a price break. He said he'd let this one go for $825.

I've been thinking heavily lately about getting a CDP, but this one has most of the same features, I like the color combo better (FWIW), and it's cheaper than the CDPs that I've seen locally.

Any opinions, good or bad, about both the pistol and the price?

Thanks a lot.

I have owned a pro elite, very nice gun, something like 1000 made. same faetures as the cdp, but black slide, chrome frame.
gun was made before kimber was really cranking out the guns, does not have the series ii features which is a good thing not to have. mine was an excellent shooter that I bought new for $899 2 years ago, and have seen used for $850-950 since it was a limited run of guns.
gun ran great never had any problems for about 2k rounds, sold it to get SA Pro model inly reason.
Would make an excellent carry price and accurate enough to compete in IDPA.
Can't go wrong at that price either, hell you ccould buy it an turn and sell it for $100+ more.
only thing I didn't like, plastic mainspring housing which is an easy fix!!!

Happy shooting

I have not seen the Pro Elite, but I was making a decision between a Pro Eclipse II and a Custom CDP. I went with the CDP based solely on the weight difference. If you are going to carry evry day, all day, spend the extra $120 and go with the CDP. My full size CDP is easily a half pound lighter thaN MY mil-spec SA. Beyond the weight, they arre the same for all of the custom add-ons. Good luck either way.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really leaning toward getting it --- especially since even though it's got the same main features as the CDP, it's a little different and and definitely more uncommon.

I guess basically I'm just trying to be sure the price is right and that there are no known problems that I should be watching for.

Thanks again.

Take care. Marko

From Kimbers website

Pro Elite [Discontinued Model] - Based on the Stainless Pro Carry model. The aluminum frame is cut from a solid brick of 7075-T7 aluminum and machined to the same precision tolerances as our steel frames. The slide is machined from a stainless steel forging to the tightest tolerances in the industry. Additional standard features include match grade barrel and chamber, beveled slide serrations, dovetail-mounted sights, highride beavertail grip safety, lowered and flared ejection port and checkered flat mainspring housing.

The Kimber bull barrel design features a barrel that is fitted directly to the slide without a bushing. Maximum weight is forward, increasing accuracy while reducing felt recoil. The design also ensures adequate slide cycle time for dependable feeding and ejection.

Hey, I'm a Colt and SA fan, I don't really care for Kimber especially since the introduction of the series II and all the big IDPA regional and National matches I have shot I haven't seen any support from them. So would I tell you to buy this if I didn't think it was worth, hell no, but it is and I wouldn't pass up this chance. I myself would buy it, hold it from a couple of months and then sell it for a $300 profit when no one wants to buy the series II, but that is me.

One of the coolest pictures I ever saw on one of these forums was one of a Pro Elite and a CDP Pro side by side. Exactly the same...but totally different. A neat matched/but not matched pair. Get the Pro Elite and if you like it pick up a CDP Pro to go along with it.

I think I'm going to go for it. I have to go past the shop again on Tuesday, so might as well stop in and talk deal.

Thanks again to all for the replies.

Take care. Marko
