Opinion on the "Hunter 1100" holsters

I have a S&W 629 w/ a 6 inch barrel and I am looking for a nice holster for it. Nothing expensive, but rugged enough to stand up to the deep brush in the woods while hunting, while protecting the finish and condition of the revolver.

The holster I am looking at is a cheap $30 "Hunter 1100 Snap-Off Belt Holster" I found on Midway.com.

Does anyone have any opinions on this brand or more specifically on this holster?

I just got the Holster today and it has some snaps on it for the retention strap. This metal snap makes contact with the revolver itself on the inside of the holster and I am worried this will cause scratching to the finish of my 629.

Do any of you know of any tricks to put some sort of patch over the metal part on the inside of the holster to keep it from rubbing? Any advice would be valued!
 
You could try gluing a small patch of suede or deerskin over it but that would be marginal and eventually have to be redone from rubbing on the gun.These are the reasons you shouldn't buy a holster becuase it's cheap, it's cheap because of poor quality.Dave
 
You got your money's worth.
Hunters are a lower end product in every respect.
They do fill a market niche but that is the best that can be said about them.
 
There are plastic covers available that snap into the eyelet part of the snap inside the holster and cover the exposed metal. While not as good as having the snap in between 2 layers of leather and therefore unable to come in contact with your gun this does permit you to have a plastic surface in contact with the gun instead of metal.

Go to eBay and go shopping. Best way is to quiry by holster makers name ie-Bianchi holsters. For that one you will get about 1200 holsters listed. You will then have to find one that meets your guns size, color, rt otr lt etc-dont forget price.

Leftie holsters go pretty cheap there.
