Opinion of Charter 2000

I was thinking about picking up a Charter 2000 44 spl. Bulldog Pug.
I've read all the reviews in the magazines..They make the guns sound great..
Now I want the opinion of you folks the ones who actually have one.
Not the choice gun chosen for the magazine writers but the ones that you and I can buy at the local gun shop.

Thanks

Larry

HYPERSS -- Bulldog Pug

Like you, I have read glowing reviews in the gunmags. How many NEGATIVE reviews have we ever read on ANY guns? I have no personal experience with the brand, but have heard that the current incarnations are O.K.: nothing close to a S&W or Ruger, but servicable. Personally, I would price a similar NEW Taurus or used S&W or Ruger. Just my opinion.

Thanks for replying and giving your point of view..
I see that I'm not the only person who has seen all the glowing reports but never a bad one..
Too bad that really lulls the buyer into a false sense that they are buying something thats worth the money and will provide service when all it will do is creat headaches for the owner and he/she will never swear to buy from that gun/company again.

Anyone else?

Hyper, I'd also be interested in hearing from someone WHO ACTUALLY OWNS a Charter 2000 .44.

People seem to discount them based on bad experiences with the prior incarnations of Charter Arms.

The Bulldog .44 is a GREAT idea if you ask me, but I don't know how well it is being executed. I might be forced to buy one just to see for myself.

"I'd like to hear from someone who actually owns one."

Well, excuuuuuuse me!:p

But, seriously, I am thinking about buying the Pug because I have a friend with two Pugs(the dog breed). If the Charter Arms really stinks, it would be a good "throw-down"

Get set-up with one of these and a Hi-Point and you'd have a serious case of the Uglies. Funny thing is, I'm actually considering getting a Hi-Point, too! Hey, Tropical Z, ya hear this?!

Hi-Points RULE!:D
I couldn't bring myself to purchase the 2000's ive seen.I wanted to,but they just looked really cheap.Ended up getting EAA windicators in .357mag.They're nice.;)

Hansolo, sorry wasn't meaning you!

Just would like to find an actual owner of a Charter 2000, I've never even heard of one on here. People with 20-year-old Pugs will respond though, which usually isn't so helpful when we are evaluating the new guns.

I dont own one..but play a 2000 owner on TV
Ive shot a couple of them..and honestly they dont impress me...
Out of the cheaper guns around...Taurus, Rossi, Charter....Id get a Rossi in a second. The Charters Ive shot (2 of them) functioned fine....felt looser than I like in their lockup and I simply dont like the finish.....the guns just dont look "finished" to me.....
Alot of people have had great luck with them..and they are lifetime warranteed...I think.
The write ups you refer too......are the gun rag mystery. Ive never read a bad write up on any gun..now that you mention it..
Even if they get a bad gun..they still dance around it and find good things to say....its their bread and butter....

Shoot well

I must be the only one who ever bought a Charter 2000 Pug. I bought it on kind of a whim-it was pretty cheap and I wanted a large caliber revolver to carry. About the best I can say is that the gun is "okay"- sort of like telling the gal you're taking home from the C&W bar "gee, for a fat girl you sure don't sweat much". I carry it for a truck gun- that's in case I ever need to put my truck out of it's misery, I guess.

Gun has a lot of perceived recoil with even really light cowboy loads. I carry the Rem 200 gr. LHP in it. It's just as accurate as my Springfield milspec subcompact .45 auto, which is has not been among the best I've ever seen.

If I had it to do over again I'd have spent $10 more on a Taurus 445. Or even $100 or so more for a S&W 696.

PS- I owned a Charter .44 Bulldog circa 1983-87. As far as I can remember the first one the quality of the 2 guns is about the same.

Charter 2000 Bulldog 44spl

Well,
Today I went out and bought my Bulldog 44spl.
I would love to post a review of the gun but I won't pick it up until 1-7-03.
That's after when TFL shuts down..
I asked the salesguy about the gun and he said that he's sold more of the Charter 2000 than he has of the Taurus's.
Maybe it's the price but he said he has one at home as his house gun..
It sure sucks to be living here in CA..
Still have to wait that damm 10 day waiting period.
Heck and I'm in LE..
You guys complain about a three day wait how's about a 10 day..
So if you have anything to add about your personal experience with the Charter 2000 Bulldog please post it before the TFL is gone..

Thanks
Larry
