Open sight guys

I have few post here I spend an hour a day here just reading and learning from the rest of you.

I'm an open sight guy any hunting I do here in Michigan is from distances of less than a 100 yrds. It's just to thick to see any farther than that. .

I just bought the rifle I have dreamed about owning for years and when I went out this week to adjust the open sights the side to side or wind-age was easy to adjust. But at 100 yrds I'm still shooting a little low. I have tried different loads but makes no difference.
My rear sight has a step sight to raise my shot UP di I push the sight blade forward up the latter or back?
I have read a few post both ways, I was told the more you move them the looser they get so I don't want to move it more than necessary.
Thank You

FORS = Front Opposite, Rear Same

You move the rear sight the same way you want the shot to go. You want your rear sight to be higher to make your shot hit higher.

Correct, Moving the rear sight up one notch will force you to raise the muzzle slightly to get the bead in the notch of the rear sight, resulting in a higher point of impact. The problem with those sights is that the adjustment is a bit course. If you're hitting a little low on one notch, moving it up may well cause you to hit a little higher than you're aiming on the next notch. Just something you will have to deal with and as long as you know where you're hitting you can make it work.

.

The elevator is a series of steps, as in staircase - it needs to be slid so that the sight's longleaf rests on a higher step to raise the POI.

FWIW, many place the sight on a step that places the POI higher than wanted, then file that step down a little at a time @ the range to zero the rifle.

Thanks, I see now after playing with it some. I moved it up 1 notch and at 100 yrds it came up 3/4 of an inch 2 notchs to far it shot 1/2 or so high. I see the blade with the V on it is also adjustable

common

You shooting a Win 30-30 or Marlin?

Often the ladder steps will give adjustments to coarse to get you "on" at the distance you want. That's what the screw adjustable tab on the rear leaf is for, fine adjustment.
