I have been useing a Fobus paddle style hoster since they came out in the US. I didnt have any problems with it, but When I wore it out and replaced it with another, I started noticeing scratches on my Glock slide. I just assumed I had let some sand get in it or something. I just got a new Glock 20 and have been useing it in the same holster. Today I noticed some very lights scratches that are identical to the fairly bad ones on my old 20. Anyone else have this problem. They are on the right side of the slide about halfway between the ejection port and muzzle. There arent any obvious burrs or rough spots in the holster. I really like the Fobus rigs, but not enough to ruin the finish. What are some other good open carry working holster for range, camping, or field use. I dont want to spend more than about $70, I prefer to save the big bucks for my concealment leather. Retention isnt a big deal, i dont want a super loose holster, but thumb breaks and such arnt nessicary. Leather or kydex is prefered, and I tend to like paddle holsters. Comfort and lack of grip sag is my number one criteria for a holster for this type use.

You could try kydex holsters from Blade-Tech or Skunkworks. These companies are in Washington state or any other companies. keep in mind that you will get finish wear from any holster leather or kydex if used enough with presentations from the holster due to work or gun games. I have holsters from both companies along with Fobus for my Glocks and also have finish wear. I also get wear from my leather concealment holsters.:)

Fobus scratching Glocks

Spray the inside of the Fobus holster with WD-40 or "just plane SILICONE. Also, take a patch and dip it in Hoppes #9. Go over the outside of the slide. See if that doesn't help.

Hellweg ( http://www.hellwegltd.com/ )makes Kydex holsters that are lined with leather, I think Brownells carries them. I haven't tried one yet but want to, they look like the best of both worlds. I have Blade Tech holsters for my carry guns. They also leave wear marks on the slides. My leather holsters did to some extent too, but they also get wet and stay wet and cause rust, you wont have that with Kydex. I wouldnt worry about your Glock, they have the most corrision resitant finish out there, its probably just "holster" on your gun, not the otther way around :)

I have a bit of trouble visualizing a purpose for a leather lined Kydex holster. The point of the hard plastic is to have good retention and nearly no friction after release during the draw.

I do like Kydex lined leather.....or just Kydex sight channel.

yep,

Fobus scratched the heck out of my G21. I stopped using it. I need a replacement as well. I think I am going to get some leather.

I got scratches on a Fobus 1911 holster with a parkerized GI 1911. I now only use the Fobus with a stainless Kimber, where I noticed no wear whatsoever on the slide, but the bluing on the front sight is starting to show wear. :(

Also use one for a Beretta Stainless 92. No wear.

I therefore suggest you can use the Fobus system for SS weapons only without worry.

I have a galco leather holster, with plastic paddle, and I sorta like it. Course in ohio I do not carry concealed as the courts are still argueing.

I love sidearmor holsters. I bought two inside waistband holster from them and am inpresed with them. You can change from belt loop to j-hook, and vary the angle the gun is at by simply ordering more parts to screw onto the holster. They have outside waist band stuff.

There is a link from the glocktalk site.

Surprised to hear these comments about Fobus. I have one for my G21 and my G19, and have never had any issues with them whatsoever.

For field use, how about a field holster like the current Bianchi Um-84 or UM-92 US forces use. Flap or thumbbreak for about $45.

Not what you asked for, but they're cool and would work well for your purpose.

Wilson Combat makes kydex holsters that are covered in leather and have a suede lining

Do they also make a leather holster with Kydex on the outside and nylon on the inside...lol:rolleyes:

I think your expectations on kydex/plastic is a bit high. Any kydex holster is going to leave scratches or wear marks.

Leather will do the same but not as much.

Any scartches the plastic puts on the gun will come off. You won't wear out the tennifer so why worry. It's not meant to look pretty, just go bang when you want it to.

You scratched 2 Glocks? ...and what, made them uglier? Don't get me wrong, I like my Glock, but there is very little that can be done to it to make it uglier ;)

Dirt inside can cause scratches. I clean my holsters then spray the inside with silicone spray. Let it dry and presto, dirt particles no longer stick and the guns slips in and out more easily.

My brother just bought a Galco Police series leather pancake-type holster. it was only like $35-40, and that thing is sweet! i have several Galco Fletch holsters for some USP's but his new Police Series was half as much and seems to be the same quality.

Thanks for all the input guys.
Kermit, I have to respectfully disagree. Glocks arent attractive in the same way a nicely blued hi-power or engraved 1911 are, but I think they are quite handsome. An unblemished Glock to me is kinda like a clean, and freshly pressed tux: Simple, classy and elegant. A scratched and worn Glock changes gears and becomes ruggedly handsome. My wife agress with you and thinks they are the ugliest handgun ever made. No, they arent gun jewlery, but at the very least, they are the homely girl with the great personality :)
