Open carry Florida

I must start by stating, I really do not have a dog in this race! But it seems to be heating up in the media here.

One thing it would do, free up our cash! Holster pistol, head for Publix, stop for a coffee, chat to people, no worries on "Printing" "Finger prints" "FBI Check" and etc. etc.

I have visited Arizona, no problem I could see. Felons would still be forbidden.

So, with no shouting! What is the consensus?

I have no problem with open carry. Fine by me.

The only thing I ever objected to as far as carrying a gun goes, was when (forget which state) some guys were open carrying UNLOADED guns at starbucks. <<Deleted>>

Open carry? Hell i wish i had concealed carry:mad:

But yes, I vote legal OC. Youre on a gun forum, I imagine the consensus would tend to agree, here.

I'll be the first one to point it out that by carrying openly instead of concealed you may not get the chance to be held up and just be shot outright if you have something the criminal wants.
It may just be the nice gun you're carrying.
At the same time it desensitizes you since you will see many people carrying openly around you.
With concealed carry once you see a gun your level of alertness heightens rapidly.
If it was me I'd keep the element of surprise on my side.

I am for OC. Actually. As long as you are by law allowed to own a gun. You should be allowed to carry it however you feel fit. Criminals will do what they want so why should it really matter when it comes to law abiding citizens.

Got any cites of this happening to non-uniformed people?

First of all, why exclude people with uniforms? Are you trying to imply that a person who would shoot a uniformed person who is openly armed would somehow be deterred from doing the same to a person without a uniform?

Second, the fact that a person can't come up with a cite doesn't mean it hasn't happened and it CERTAINLY doesn't mean it can't happen. The reason that cites for virtually any type of shooting incident involving citizens open carrying are rare is because open carry itself is rare.

Would you have a problem with this TX ranger?

I read in one of the gun magazines about a Texas Ranger who used to carry his Colt 45 single-action revolver in a buscadero rig, open-top, cartridge loops, etc. But that was just for show. Unloaded.

His duty gun was in a concealed holster.

Sorry, I don't have the citation, but it was so many years ago that Starbucks had yet to open its first store!

It's California of all states, who'd a thunk it?

I call them the Dorks with Glocks videos. :D They are actually pretty funny.

I remember the uphill fight we had getting the "Shall Issue" CCW passed back in the 80's. Getting open carry would be another major fight. Notice that vitually none of the politicians running for office in Florida right now have mentioned gun rights? Seems both the democrats and republicans have reached a "don't ask, don't tell" agreement on the issue.

I have OC'ed a few times but really don't make it a practice simply because I'm an introvert and don't care for unwanted attention, good or bad. If people would stop making a big deal about it, I'd OC all the time.

This is in KY by the way. I'm sure AZ is a lot better about the practice.

Florida Div of Licensing; Mylicensesite.com, Open Carry...

To my limited knowledge, "open carry" is not allowed all over Florida.
For details about state gun laws or Div of Licensing; www.Mylicensesite.com .The NRA, www.NRA.org or www.Handgunlaw.us may help too, ;)....will get any new 2A/gun laws or updates soon.

We need constitutional carry from coast to coast: if you're legally entitled to keep and bear arms, you can keep and bear arms—period.

You can currently carry openly while hunting, camping, fishing, or target practicing and to and from said activities. Just some info for some fellow Floridians.

(3) LAWFUL USES.--The provisions of ss. 790.053(open carry statute) and 790.06(concealed statute) DO NOT APPLY in the following instances, and, despite such sections, it is lawful for the following persons to own, possess, and lawfully use firearms and other weapons, ammunition, and supplies for lawful purposes:

(h) A person engaged in fishing, camping, or lawful hunting or going to or returning from a fishing, camping, or lawful hunting expedition;

My wife and I both have our Concealed Carry Permit here in Florida and carry concealed weapons daily, but for myself I am uncomfortable with the idea of open carry. She on the other hand is thrilled with the idea.

I've seen people do some really stupid things when they get around guns and the idea of every-man-Jack (or woman-Jane) strapping on their guns and wearing them openly as a fashion statement worries the heck out of me. It's just a little too wild west for me.

The idea itself is a good one, but in practice it may not be as good as it sounds. :)

I live in FL & Have a ccp. I am fore open carry it would make lifer easier if you print. Some leo's go goofy when a tourist yells GUN.
