Whilst on vacation in Oregon last week, I went to a gun show with a friend.

Aside from the rifles (not currently legal in the People's Democtratic Socialist Republic of California), I found several Smiths from the old days. All pinned barrel revolvers, one blue, 4", M19; one nickel, 2.5" M19, and a blue 3.5" M27. All reasonably within my affordability range. All in very good to excellent condition. All not importable to PDSR Ca.

Enough to make a preacher harbor unkind thoughts and mumble vile words. Not to mention the initial feelings of lust and covetousness.

You've got my sympathy, friend.

I've resided in the People's Republic of California for a decade now, and am looking for another place to live. A little over a year ago, I found an eight-inch Python at GunBroker.com, haggled a bit, and sent the middle-western dealer a check. Turns out I can't so-called "import" it into the P.R.C. He's holding it for me until I've moved.

With a single exception, every state I'm considering requires a local driver's license, plus the usual federal paper work and background check. Idaho requires that one so-called "establish residence" for six months before being allowed to exercise one's Second Amendment civil rights. I was sorely disappointed, because it's a very likeable state in all other respects. Colorado would be high on my list, but it doesn't have a shall issue law, nor does New Mexico.

I still prefer California's scenery and beaches and weather to those of all the other places I've lived in or visited, but subjects of the P.R.C. have lost enormous portions of our First, Second, and Fourth Amendment civil rights.

Consider Texas? Concealed carried permit easily and cheaply obtained, one day training class. CCW is recognized in alot of other states. Lots of gun shows. Big enough to where you can choose mountains, seashore, major city, woods or desert. Gets a little hot in the summer though...

Utah best gun state I have lived in, Arkansas OK but too many restrictions on where concealed carry OK. I grew up in CA but moved in 1992 when the assualt weapon crap started. Gotten much wrose since with so-called "safety law" on handguns.

I can sympathize

Living in Calif I am also looking for somewhere else in the West. CCW appears to be for the politically connected (we have a Demo state senator with a rare CCW).

I could say it has saved me some money not being able to buy a lot of "unsafe" guns but it hasn't. Had to resort to "building my own" when it came to Mountain Guns. Couldn't find any for sale on consignment or private party transfers.

What are WA, MT and OR requirements for ccw?

Jim T.

Jim, All I can speak to is the Wa laws. They are a must issue state which means that if you have no criminal history or drug abuse history they have to issue the permit. No classes required. First time costs around 60 bucks. That's good for 5 years. I'm not sure how much the renewal is yet as I have one more year to go.

In the Workers' Paradise of KA, we have

Pointless laws that neither serve to reduce crime nor reduce the # of guns available. In fact, gun mfgs probably like the law since their older products may no longer be sold and no profits are reaped from the resale of used guns.

Nov is around the corner Californian. If you're not registered to vote, go out and do so! Vote Pro-Gun.
