Subject: Rally Speaker robbed by con-man attending rally
Greeting Friends and Fellow Activists,
Our Albany rally went well, all but three guest speakers whom had agreed
to come did so or sent alternates, Niger Innis cancelled because of an
RNC request to be in Philadelphia for the convention in return for George
W. attending the CORE fund raising banquet. John Lott cancelled at the
last minute for a "job related conflict". Most of the local media sent
reporters, or news crews this time ( the ability to send repeated press
releases must help), though they did not try to make us out to be kooks
neither did the papers I read say anything about this being a Civil
Rights rally, or anything else that would indicate that this involved
issues bigger than discontent over the new gun laws. The Schenectady
paper credited us with 250 attendees, we will judge from the photos.
We had rain that was at times fairly heavy, and many participants and
speakers reported they drove out through some pretty heavy storms. We
had some very dynamic speakers, and I am proud of the men and women who
came out at their own expense and donated their time to help present our
issues to all present. Our third party candidates both Libertarian and
Constitution Party gave good Constitutionalists arguments of the type
that will only be brought to the debates if they get enough petition
signatures to get in the ballot, http://www.nyconstitutionparty.com/ http://www.ny.lp.org/ to access their petitions, and this brings me to
the mugging of one of our speakers after the rally.
During the rally I noticed a familiar looking thin young black man whom I
later recognized as a regular attendee of the Albany gun show, usually he
is trying to sell electronics like cam corders and willing to haggle his
prices though I have never had the cash on hand to buy from him he was
around enough I figured people were not having a problem with him. Right
after the end of the rally he came up to one of my volunteers striking up
a conversation to establish he knew Leo from the shows and wanted to
offer him a deal, but Leo was in a hurry to return the P.A. system and
had to go.
So he came to me offering a notebook computer I did not have the money
for, he came back to me twice as I talked to other people steadily
lowering the price to where I agreed to go to an ATM and withdraw enough
cash to buy it, so we left together and the more he talked the more he
claimed to be friends with one of Bob, one our speakers to build my
confidence in him as some one I could trust though I only knew him from
a few times he had tried to sell me items in the past. When we got to
where the computer was supposed to be and he came up with I should give
him my money while he went inside alone he asked me "Didn't I trust him?"
and "Bob can vouch for me?" I asked if he was getting off there.
As soon as we got back he went over to Bob like they were old friends to
help him with his boxes and people came up to me needing to talk. As I
tried to make my way to Bob to ask him how well he knew this guy they
headed off and I lost track of them. The next time I saw Bob he was
looking for me to ask if I knew this guy because he had just mugged him
in an elevator.
The assailant is in his 30s just starting to gray, dressed in black or
navy blue slacks and windbreaker, skinny, neatly groomed, black, about
5'8 to 5'9 may have had a thin mustache and goatee. If you have anyone
like that in any photos or video taken at the rally please let me know.
Please spread the word as we need to search for a photo of this con-man,
given to violence if the opportunity and need present it's self, who
seems willing to prey on our people in places like the state plaza where
we must be unarmed.
