One more comparison (KZ or Eclipse)

Ok boys and girls... the local shop has a Kimber Eclipse as well as a Wilson Combat KZ-45. Both are around the same price ($100 difference). I like the weight of the kimber as well as the finish. However I prefer the trigger pull of the KZ as well as the 10 round mag.

It would be nice to not have to worry about crappy customer service as well, but this is secondary to the functioning /reliability of the gun. This is gonna be my only semi for several years so let the opinions fly.

One other consideration, the guy at the shop said the Wilson put in a stronger extractor/ejector in the KZ since this is a natural weak point of 1911's. Is this true or does it matter?

True and only matters if your 1911 gets funky on you.

Of the two, I'd take the KZ. It's a FINE shooting pistol and equates the quality of guns costing more than twice as much.

George,

Do you think the weight of the KZ would substantially add to the recoil? I do prefer a heavier gun as they make target acquisition easier during rapid fire, which is why im not sold over polymer guns. If its negligible then I think that would be a serious point in the KZ's favor.

If at all possible, shoot each before diving in.
Beg, borrow, rent or whatever.
It has to please you........not the rest of the world.

Sam,

You are absolutely right. But believe me when I say I've tried.
There's no way the range I go to is gonna let me shoot one of their $1000 pistols i.e the kimber. With the KZ, I've been all around San Diego and have only found one for sale in the entire freakin county. As far as borrowing I don't know anybody with either (college student = liberal anti-gun friends or very poor por gun friends). The only reason that I would be willing to purchase either of these without shooting is a) I plan to own both at some point in time b) both companies are very reputable and produce a quality product c) its kinda hard to screw up the feel of a 1911 IMO.

I have 4 1911 pistols, including a Wilson Combat KZ45 and a Kimber CDP. The Kimber has been the most problematic pistol I've ever owned -but that just might be bad luck. Customer service is great with both companies though.

The KZ (and all Wilson Combats) comes with a 15yd test target, is accuracy guaranteed @ 1.5"/25yards. It also comes with a 4-step, 76-item checklist initialed by the techs & gunsmith who assembled the pistol. (If Kimber had this level of QC, my pistol would never have slam-fired out of the box, and the mag release would have worked.)

I love my KZ45 to the point that it is my primary out of the 25 firearms that I currently own. I have weapons several times the cost of this Wilson.

The KZ has an EXTERNAL extractor, which is probably the best real innovation to be incorporated into the 1911 pistol style.
You may be thankful about this someday, to the point that it may save your life.

In addition to my primary SD/HD weapon, I take it to IDPA and IPSC meets, where it shoots great. I get lots of complements about it.

Negatives about the KZ? That coating doesn't wear well at all, but I don't mind since it is a business tool.
