One killed, three wounded by assult weapon in Northeast DC

We all know DC has some of the most stringent firearms laws in the nation and that an ordinary citizen cannot carry a weapon to protect himself in our Capital. That’s really too bad, since it is also a venue where self-defense is more than occasionally required. See the following story: http://www.nbc4.com/news/4808210/detail.html.

Let's see -

It was an "assault weapon" but there is nothing more to identify how they determined that. (mea culpa - the folks in the box truck were assaulted, so the weapon used MUST have been an assault weapon)

There is an elementary school nearby, but it is closed for summer vacation. (anybody know why that tidbit was included, unless the writer gets paid by the column-inch?)

Would one of you nice folks out there please bring a ladder over so I can get off my soapbox. And if anybody has some duct tape I could use to keep my head from exploding I would appreciate it very much.

stay safe.

Holy Cow!

At least we know that the perpetrator was a law enforcement officer.

After all, they're the only ones with assault rifles in DC.

Okay - this is some of the crappiest writing i've ever seen -

1. a masked gunman is believed responsible for four people being shot - as opposed to a masked pizza delivery boy
2. The chief said this kind of violence is "unacceptable," and called it "crazy" and "insane." - All other violence is "acceptable", and "normal" and "sane".
3. Lasalle Elementary School is nearby, but is closed for the summer. - SO WHAT!

Wow, I may have to start writing for the local news. The online news websites here in Denver are shoddy too - mis-spelled words all over the place, and poor punctuation, and 'extra words' thrown in for free!

Sickening

:barf: The truck is stopped right across the street from the Faith Daycare Center. I know this becasue up until last summer, my son was enrolled there. If this occured around 8 am, there is a very good chance that there were several parents w/toddlers on the street at that exact moment being dropped off. In the background of picture #2 there is a blue car and behind it a pair of red doors, this is the entrance of the center (where my wife and I would park every day to drop off the boy). I'm very glad that no kids were hurt in this incident.

hkOrion,

And the usual assortment of plural's using apostrophe's, no doubt's. How did we get so quickly grammar deficient?

Humph. I thought the pratice of using the apostrophe had to do with being grammar check dependent, but Mozilla at least knows the difference.

I need to go to the range and get in some meditation time before I go nuts.

Oh, is the school comment due to a law prohibiting firearms use or display within 1000 feet of a school?
