I was wondering what one handed reloads were. I am in criminal Justice at college but that is one thing they have not taught us yet.
thanks

A one handed reload is a method by which you reload a semi-automatic pistol using only one hand. It simulates the shooter being injured, and losing the use of one hand/arm.

A strong hand/one handed reload, consists of 1)dropping the magazine, 2)securing the weapon by either putting it into the holster or clamping it behind one knee, 3)withdrawing a fresh magazine with the strong hand, 4)inserting the magazine into the holstered or clamped weapon, and 5)releasing the slide.

As far as I know, there is no means of reloading a revolver one handed.

Hope that helps.

Reloading a revolver was somewhat similar. Unlatch the cylinder and hold the revolver so gravity caused the cylinder to fall open. Hold the revolver barrel up and shake it so the empty cases fell out. If they didn't, you had to play some manipulation games to shift your grip and hit the ejector rod so the empties would fall free. I remember ending up with the barrel of the revolver shoved inside the belt with the cylinder opened outward so the speedloader could be inserted. From then on it was gravy.

I have tried both techniques (revolver and automatic) and both will work, but they both require a lot of practice. I wou;d recommend loading some dummy rounds (no powder) for practicing. If you don't reload your fired cartridge cases, there is a company which advertises in Shotgun News which sells dummy rounds which they call snap caps.

I used to teach this--revolver and semiauto, right hand only and left hand only--to officers. The lesson was twofold: first, that this particular thing can be done, and that you have now accomplished it. Secondly, NEVER quit. Same thing is done by teaching officer down drills and learning to shoot from almost any imaginable position. (Your mind is your primary weapon.)
