? on M1 carbine.

Hello,
I have a small problem. I purchased an M1 carbine on impulse. It is a refinish. It was
fashioned after a WWII OSS weapon. The other owner constructed a fake suppressor and reparked everything to match. It has good wood and a 1 or 2 rd cap mag that fits flush
with the mag well. I fired it--but guess what? It won't fire semi auto with other mags. What can I do to correct this?

Hi, ursus,

The gun sounds like something the previous owner played around with and messed up big time. Possibly he tried making a real sliencer and modified the carbine somehow to try to make it work with the can.

A trip to a gunsmith might help, but fixing the gun might cost more than it is worth.

Actual OSS use of silenced carbines is (as one might expect) a bit murky. They contracted for some, but it is not known if any were ever used in actual operations. The British also modified a few to take silencers, but again, there are no records of any actual use. Maybe in that back closet in the basement in Langley...
