Hmmm ... Lemon Oil ... now that sounds like something that I can use in the house! Where does a guy find lemon oil?

Thanks,

Sure is! Let me talk to you about my home based business

JUST KIDDING!

Seriously though, the Lemon Oil is the great if you just want one fluid to remove cosmoline, not have to worry about catching the house on fire with flamable fumes and want to work in the house with the domestic Goddess at home and not get thrown out for stinking the place up.

It will not harm the wood, will disolve the cosmoline, smells good, and can be found in just about any grocery store in the cleaning products section.

I haven't tried the lemon oil before, but another thing worth trying is one of the various "purple" degreasers. After you get all the cosmoline out, you can re-oil the stock with something like boiled linseed oil, or tung oil. I am in the process of doing this now on a Finnish M39.

I suggest you check out the forum at www.milsurpshooter.net. They have an entire conference devoted to cleaning cosmoline out of stocks. I found a lot of good info there.
