On Hi Standard auto, what's best way to drop hammer?

Is dummy round the only way? I have been holding the slide back just a wee bit and pulling the trigger to keep pin from hitting barrel face. Is the firing pin limited to keep it from hitting metal? Used cases make a mess as they always lose some more junk when snapped again.

AFAIK, all High Standard pistols have a firing pin stop that prevents the firing pin from reaching the barrel. It is easy to check with a bit of typewriter correction paper (if such is still to be obtained) or some lipstick on the barrel face. (I actually prefer lipstick on other faces, but it can sometimes be useful in checking contact of parts.)

I've had one around 30 years & always used the technique you mentioned. (Hold back slide the most possible that will still drop hammer. Have two barrels, not a mark on either of them after all that time & all those decockings.
