omega muzzle-loader

I just bought an in-line rifle from T/C and was primeing the breach and discovered that the primer (209x50) would only go in about half the full
length. Since I've never loaded a 209 primer in an "in-line", I was wondering
if maybe one of you fellows actually have fired this type M/L rifle. I understand that several reloading component manufactures (Remington
and Winchester ) sell what they deem " muzzle-loading" primers. Are these
primers the same Dia. as standard 209 Shotgun primers? I really don't have
a warm-fuzzy-feeling about the primer sticking out like it does and being
fired. Any advice would be welcomed.

All 209 primers are essentially the same diameter but there are very slight variations in length [mostly] that can make a difference with how well they fit in some individual guns. The most important factor is that they're not getting dented when the action is closed.

The other main difference between brands of primers is how hot they are and which ones produce the best groups and/or the least amount of fouling with the brand of powder that's being loaded. Primers can make a difference with some guns and powders but not always.
For instance, Blackhorn 209 powder generally requires the hottest primers for reliable ignition while 777 pellets (and to a lesser extent the loose 777) produce less of a crud ring when used with the least hot 209 primers which were developed as an improvement.

Omega priming

Thanks arcticap for your reply and advice (links also).......... I
talked to a gun dealer about this problem and basically (he)told me
the same thing you have.........as long as the breach shuts properly
and doesn't damage the primer, everything is working as intended.
Again thanks for takeing the time to talk with me.
