Do any of you guys shoot and hunt with the old .303 British. And have you ever considered bringing one on safari to Africa.
What ‘oldie’ calibres and guns have you brought on safari, and what were the results?
Hey Bush Baby,
Good to see you here at TFL. How can you go wrong with the .303 British. I worked for me in Namibia on a kudu. It has worked well for me here in Oregon for many different things, from deer, to bear, to elk. I love the .303 British. It kills things dead at reasonable ranges, and doesn't destroy your hearing or your shoulder...
Thanks JRS, it’s nice to be here.
Yeah I know what you mean about the .303, for general bushveld hunting you just don’t need more. Despite what some folks say I regard it as marginal for Kudu (not first choice) with standard 174gr bullets, but fine for anything up to and including Nyala.
I am very interested in the 45-70 and the 444 Marlin, has anyone used them over here?
Concerning the 444 how would it perform using bullets at around 300grs? Will jacketed handgun bullets of 300grs hold together at the velocities possible with the 444.
Drop me an e-mail sometime I have some great hunts available, since we last spoke.
Packages from $2600 - $4200. Hunts are for plains game and vary from 6-10 animals, and from 5-10 days.
