Older Taurus M82

Any one own an older taurus m82. I have one that was imported by centry arms. amazingly it is in good shape. Best i can find out it was manufactured late 70s or early 80s. I have been told that it has a heavy barrel and is plus p rated but its 50 50 on that question. I will say it seems built like a brick s@#t house. Lock up is tight and it past the revolver check list found on this forum with flying colors. However I trust this sights info more than the others because all i have learned on here has been true thus far. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I had one back in the day. Good gun that I shot thousands of wadcutters through. I shot wadcutters because they were cheap, not because I thought the gun wouldn't handle other ammo. I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot anything from a factory marked 38 Special in it, as much as I wanted.

I had one that was well worn..when i got it ...back in the mid 80's ..put soo....many wadcutters through that gun..and swaped it off early 2000 wish i would have kept it

I own a 82 but a newer one.

If you need to get around the +P thing there is a way. Chances are that it is not +P rated but I could be wrong.

www.federalpremium.com has the Federal 125gr. round nosed hollowpoint that has a real world track record that is excellent for stopping agressesors. It's a standard pressure round. Plenty of penetration and bullet expansion.

www.buffalobore.com makes two excellent standard pressure rounds (stay away from hard cast bullet loads for defense) that have +P velocities without the +P pressures and recoil.

There are many cases documented cases of +P rounds being used in the older 82s. Just make it a limited use due to the extra wear and tear that +P makes on a revolver moving parts and frame.

Practice with 130gr.-158gr. rounds is easy enough.

One caveat. Buyer beware of the Police Trade ins that Century Arms and others have recieved in. Some of those are in excellent shape and others are not.

I like Rugers for the most part, but the Taurus 82 will more than fill the bill.
