Hello,

Inherited a Remington Pump .22 from my grandfather when he died. It's the only gun I own, I would like to know more about it. Such as the year, model etc.... I've looked on the net and can't seem to find any info on it, maybe you can help.

S/N is 256520 this number is underneath the gun just in front of the trigger guard.

I would also like to clean it up, theres a slight amount of rust on the barrel. what is best to remove the rust without damaging anything?

Thank you in advance,

Tod

Remington has only made a few different .22 pump rifles.
The model 12 made from 1909 to 1936 and the model 121 from 1936 to 1954 which was the same basic design with a few updates.
They were followed by the model 572 in 1956 which is still made as the 572BDL.

I don't have any serial number information. Remington has used a letter designation for year and month of manufacture since 1921, look for markings. If it has an octagon barrel, then it is surely a model 12. Otherwise, look on the Remington website for the 572BDL and see if it is the same except for sights and stock checkering.

Fine steel wool and oil will remove light rust with little damage to the remaining blue. Do NOT scrub it with dry steel wool. 0000 is usually recommended but I have cleaned steel with 000 if there is more than just a faint rusting.

Thank you,

I talked to my mother today, and she said she thought it was a 1933. I looked up the model 12 on the remington site and there it was.

Thanks again,

Tod
