(Older) Dan Wesson question (+pic)

I recently stumbled upon an older Dan Wesson at a pawn shop in central Florida. My wife likes "old school" revolvers" and I knew she'd like this one. So, after checking to see that it was tight mechanically, I walked out with it, and a box of ammo, for $200.00. It's a 4" bbl, fixed sights, made in Monson, ser. # is 3104XX. Questions...is it a Model 14, and does anyone know the approx. date of manufacture ?? Oh, and it shoots perfectly...smooth and accurate.

One thing to look for

Take a look at frired rounds and look at the primer pockets after the rounds have been fired and if you not experanced check it against another gun of like calaber.
Old Dan wessons have a minor problem with there main springs getting weak, I have owned one and have also had one come through the shop that I work in. With some cases the primes are a little harder material and the gun would not fire reliabliy.
Once the main springs were repaced they were fine trust worthy guns.
One other thing, If the feeler gage that came with the gun is heavely worn get a new one, barrel to cylinder fit is very important to the DW and shooting lots of strings can cause the gun to bind up if the fit is too tight, also if its too loose it can cause cutting of the top strap.

Dan Wesson Model 14 worth?

Dan Wesson Model 14 worth?
I would offer no more than $100 for the gun.
Froom thelooks of the blueing it might be woorth less....

I think he did all right. GunsAmerica has them listed today from $200 to $300. He might have been able to get into it for a bit less because of the bluing wear, but if it works for his wife . . . that's a great revolver. Bluing wear sure doesn't affect function! :) I probably would have bought it for $200, myself; I've sort of had my eye out for one for a while.

Personally, I like Dan Wessons - great action, and they're heck for strong but not as bulky as a Ruger. Scout, you might check out the new Dan Wesson company's website and buy a barrel/cylinder gap gauge and a barrel wrench, as well as any other barrel lengths you might want.

Great looking revolver!! I love those vintage models myself. I'm sorry I can't help with dating, but I learned a long time ago that what constitutes a good deal is in the eyes of the buyer. If you are happy with your revolver, you got a great deal. My opinion, you done pretty darn good. Have a good one and enjoy.

Thanks for the input, and the websites. This gun appears to have been carried a lot but shot very little. I may pursue the tools and other barrels, but for now we're totally happy with this older, reliable, tight, accurate, comfortable shooting, versatile, (and yes, $190.00) gun.

Whatever others feel about the gun, what is important is how YOU feel about it. Personally, I don't like the looks of DW guns although my wife has a target grade 715 w/ a 4" barrel and it shoots real well and it is very accurate
