Old weaver scope with problems

I'm back and I still have the same problem, I have been to three LGS and no one can get this Weaver mounted correctly. It is a Weaver V9-B 3x-9xAO. It is a El Paso Weaver pre 1984, so I'm told.

First question:
Is there anyone that can check/repair this old Weaver. It is in good shape, but no one can get it sited in. Is there a expert somewhere in the country that works on these?? Is there anyone in south florida?

Next question:
If no one can check/fix this Weaver, I need to find a replacement.

What I have is a 1958 Winchester M70 30-06 with Leupold 1" rings. What I need to find is a Leupold 1" 4-14x40, 6-20x40, something in that area. I want to shoot 500-900yds with this. I would like to stay under $700 if possible. Does anyone have knowledge of the Leupold line that would fit in this?

Iron Sight Inc. is probably one of the best places to have your old Weaver repaired. They are recommended as well by Leupold to have your old Denver Redfield scopes repaired at. However if you type "Vintage Scope Repair" into google you'll get a whole bunch of results and may find one closer to you.

If you want a Leupold, I would suggest checking out The Sample List. I'd look at the 3.5-10, 4.5-14 VXIII and VX3 scopes if they have any. You don't need a 6-24 power scope to get out that far. Plus there are other scopes I'd look at as well Vortex Viper series, Sightron SII and SIII, Zeiss, and a few others on there. My long range rifle has a 3.5-10X40 Weaver Grand Slam Tactical on it and it works well and was only $299 at Midway.

If you want to shoot 900 yards with a one inch scope you need some serious adjustment. The Bushnell Elite 3200 has enough adjustment to get you there, but I don't think any of the Leupolds you mentioned fit the bill. I think that only the Tactical lineup from Leupold has that much adjustment.

Unless you are handloading pretty hot you should plan on needing about 35 to 40 minutes of UP adjustment from your 100 yard zero to get to 900. That means you want a scope with no less than 70 minutes of internal elevation adjustment.

If you change rings to 30mm that opens up some options, or if you change out to some Burris Extreme Zee rings with offset inserts that could help free up some adjustment as well.

If it's broke, it' broke.

Not the gun shops' fault. There is no magical mount that can fix an internally broke scope.

Contact Weaver. Maybe they'll fix it or work out some kind of deal with you for a discount on a new scope.

The new Weaver isn't going to fix the old El Paso Weaver's, the aren't anywhere near the same company. Just like the new Redfield isn't going to warranty any of the old Scopes. I doubt either one would sell you a discounted scope either. I guess it doesn't hurt to try but I wouldn't expect anything.

nope

Taylors got it, the Iron Sight people will work on your vintage Weaver. But expect a long wait, 6-9 months. They've done a pair of old
Redfields for me a few years back when the wait was not so long.

The advice on the amount of adjustment necessary to get past 600 is sound. I'm not so sure the old Weaver will do it. Aside from that , if the old scope does not have varmint or target turrets, making the adjustmens could be a real hassle.

If it were me, I'd fix the Weaver and put it on the vintage M70,and the rig will look right and do most of what you will ever need a rifle to do. The M70-'06 combo is a classic sporter rig and trying to turn it into a longrange match rifle is a step in the wrong direction.

If I just had to shoot out to 600+, I'd put another rifle/rig together for the purpose.
