Old shotshells

I just found several boxes of 12 ga. Reminton Exprees long range no.4 that I bought in 1984. Some shells seems a bit rusted but most are fine. Would they work well? Is it safe to shoot them?

As long as they have been kept in a reasonably cool dry area they probably will work. 20 years is not old !!!

True.

I have lots of old 12-gauge Remington, Mohawk and some other stuff from the 1950s that I'm sure will fire.

Should work just fine. I would however take a brass or bronze brush and clean off a bit of the rust just so the rust wont get on the chamber walls and corrode the steel.

Heck, I heard stories of old blackpowder shotshells that were like 100 years old and they fired perfectly through modern shotguns. Wouldn't want to fire them through a gas opperated semi auto unless you want to spend lots of time cleaning. :D

Probably nothing to worry about. I've got some 20-year old shells here, and I have a hunch they'd work just fine. My dad had some 50-year old .22s, and every one of them fired without a hitch.

yeah, 20 years isnt old at all. Awhile back my brother bought some 8mm surplus turkish ammo that was manufactured in the 40's. They worked fine and had no misfires.
