Old Rossi 38

Depends on the price, condition, and if the gun passes the function test at the top of the revolver forum.

Rossi revolvers can be a good deal. The problem is that if you get a lemon there's not a lot you can do.
With older Rossi revolvers the odds of getting a lemon are fairly high. So the function test is very important.

Finding info on early Rossi guns is tough as the data base just isn't there .. l stick with the model 68 or 88 as those may be the best they ever made and some S&W parts will work for those models but most turn there nose up to the Rossi name.

but they make spare parts for S&W and Colt for a reason because they also break down.

I agree with crazycrave that Rossi did make some fine models and my model 88 SS with 2" barrel purchased in the early 90's is one of them. Mine has about 1,000 rounds through it with never a problem. Still as accurate as a j-frame sized revolver can be, it serves mostly as a safe queen but about once a year I will put a box of ammo through it and then clean it up and put it back in the safe. Previously owned a model 971 in .357 mag with six inch barrel that I gave to my son. This was also bought about 25years ago and always a good shooter. Not all Rossi's are bad guns if one does his research well and treats them as they should be treated. Would classify the older ones similiar to Taurus or Charter Arms.

I recently shot a new Rossi 46103 and was quite impressed. The finish was nice, well balanced and accurate. DA pull was smooth and the SA pull was light as a feather. The felt recoil even with magnum rounds was no issue at all. Check it out like you would any other, could be a sweet gun.

Like Taurus, which now owns Rossi, Rossi QC was spotty. If you got a good one, you had an excellent revolver that would outlast most of us. If you got a lemon, you might as well toss it because getting it repaired was a hassle and gunsmiths didn't even want to work on them.

Do you guys remember the old Ford commercials; have you driven a Ford "lately"?

Based on what I've seen the same would apply to Rossi; have you shot one "lately"?
