old rolling block

I have an old octagon barrel remington my father left me. Bigger than a 22. Has hooded front sight and v rear sight. All it says on top of barrel is Remington- London and New York. Checkered palm grip, single shot and no serial number. Would like to know more about this. Can someone help? Also has a curled trigger guard. Thanks

Pictures would help, larger than 22 could be a Remington Model 4 Rolling Block centerfire rifle in 25-10 caliber. Don't have enough information to be sure, sorry.

If it's a petite Remington #4 Rolling Block, check the barrel bottom flat, for both the serial number, and the caliber stamping - which should be just a ".22", ".25", ".32", etc, since they were chambered for rimfire cartridges 1890-1933.

It could be anything from a .22 to a .50. They were made in over a hundred calibers worldwide. The most manufactured military caliber was 7X57.
