My father left this to me. Serial # says made in '73. Original condition, minus a front sight. What should I do? Can this gun be converted? Is there a recall?
Or should I put a front sight on and leave it be?

Most of this was answered in your other/dupe post here a few days ago:

There's a voluntary recall, because some azzwipe successfully sued Ruger after they had an incident with a Ruger SA revolver - why Ruger went to the New Model transfer bar lockwork after 1973.

Ruger will convert the lockwork to the transfer bar style for the bubble, but I wouldn't send mine in for the work, as I prefer the old lockwork. YMMV.

The OM front sights were AFAIK soldered on, so if the front sight's AWOL w/o a trace, IMO your BH once had a longer bbl (most likely 7-1/2") that somebody cut down & never got around to installing a new sight on.

I previously answered otherwise because for some unk reason I thought you had a NM Blackhawk, some of which had a screw-on front sight ramp.

I'd suggest just installing a new front sight, or have a real gunsmith (not some AR parts-changer) do it for you.
