Old Military Stocks

I have several old military rifles (1873 Trap Door through M1 Garand) that have been in storage for a couple of years and will stay in storage a couple more years. I have them in a gun safe with desiccant bags to prevent rust.

Should I be doing anything to keep the stocks from drying out? I am living overseas, but get to visit my guns once or twice a year.

I have been told that linseed oil should be applied, but I’m not sure how often or how heavy.

I have used linseed oil, A light coating and then rub it in with either your palms or a soft colt I now use Lemon oil, the same stuff the wife uses on the furniture. It's cleaner, dries fast and seems to work for me.

My advise: use plenty of Balistol.
See my earlier posts on this subject to understand why.
