Old Family Browning...?

Hey all-

My Dad has an old Browning over-under 12 ga. which he inherited from his Dad. I want to get it dated to find out how old it is and possibly the value on it. The problem is, I can't find a serial number anywhere on it. It's in great shape and shoots like a dream, but we have no idea how old it is or anything like that. Any ideas on where the SN would be or possibly where to start looking? I'd obviously like to avoid tearing the gun apart to find the dang thing. Please advise!

I have a Browning serial number problem too. I have a Browning .22 autoloader rifle with a Made in Japan mark on it, so it is not Belgian. I have had it since June 1989, and it appeared to be well used when I got it. I have looked everywhere I can think of for a serial number, and have not found one or any evidence that one has been removed. Any ideas where to look?

It's Belgian made. What do you mean by "Look on the top tang under the lever, or on the sides of the barrel extensions." Sorry if I'm just a numbskull, but I'm not familiar with that terminology.

on the top of the gun where the lever is that you move to open the gun typically you will find the serial number on the gun in that location

Since it is a Belgian gun, when you go to Proofhouse, look at the "Superposed" section for dating

I am not familiar enough with the .22 to tell you, but typically, I have seen them either on the side of the receiver or possibly on the tang. Since the receiver IS the firearm, it should at least be on it somewhere
