Old Colt

Went into a local gun shop the other day and noticed this laying in the corner of the gun case, it is a Colt Serial # 198886, it is not the original finish, and the sights have been modified.
Some details, Slide-above firing pin stop (H) under FP stop (7) where disconnector rides on slide (4)
On the barrel, on the side of the hood (PX-4) by the link pin (SP)
Frame, by the disconnector on top of the frame (RG) Top of right rail (8) bottom inside of dustcover (7)
Inspectors Mark by Col. Gilbert H Stewart.
Everything in parentheses is stamped on the gun.
Any information is appreciated,
Thanks, Keppy

Other than that, I don't know if the markings are correct for the period and I don't know if restoration would be possible, affordable, or acceptable to Colt collectors.
