Old .303

My brother-in-law recently gave an old .303 to my son. Only problem is that it was in a bag. I got it together, but I'm no gunsmith. Is there a resource online that gives exploded views of these rifles? Also, is there a reputable gunsmith in the DFW area that can tell me if this thing will blow up when i fire it the first time?

Try, rifleman.org.uk, nice site gives much info on the 303. Or just do a google search there is a ton of info on the smle. good luck TF

Which model of .303? There are several. Go here. There are assembly/disassembly pages with pictures(right side column) for the No. 1 Mk III Lee-Enfield, the No.'s 4 & 5 Lee-Enfields plus the U.S. Pattern 17/14 rifle. The Pattern 17 is chambered in .30-06, but it's the same rifle. The Pattern 14 is chambered in .303 British.

Once assembled, take it to a smithy to have the headspace checked. No shooting it until you do. You can buy the guages from Brownell's and do it yourself too. It's not at all difficult.

Awesome

Thanks for all the help. I got it all together, and I will definitely take it to a smithy! I did find out that it is a No 4 MK I ROK from 1943. :)
