Okay one last time, which shotgun is the better deal?

Ok....I after doing extensive research I have found that Buds Gun Shop is the best choice as far as getting the shotgun I want, as one of my local dealers transfers for $20 bucks hehe. Anyways, here are ones that I narrowed down in my price range that I would be interested in.

Mossberg 500 20" barrel 8-shot $329 (final price)
Mossberg 590 20" barrel 9-shot $379 (final price)

The Maverick is out of the question when I can get an a 500/590 for these prices. The question is, is there enough features/advantages on the regular blued 590 to justify an extra $50 bucks? The 500 weighs 7 pounds, the 590 7 1/4'' so weight is neglible. I really won't need a bayonet on my shottie, but don't know if the 590 is a more robust version of the 500. the 590 being the standard blued model, I believe it still has the polymer safety/trigger guard, so that is neglible. I definitely want a Mossberg, as I fell in love with the features of the 500A Mariner I sold stupidly. I have a Remington, and don't can to get another, so I am not even considering one. Any replies/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Well personally I ain't got a dog in this fight... For the extra 2 rounds, I prefer a butt cuff... There is just too limited barrel selection for the hi-cap tubes.
5+1 is all I seek so as for your $50 dollar question... if you like the ruff dull finish of parkerized, go for it, if you can remember to oil and clean the blued gun and like that look, save the $50 and get that one.

Brent's right on the mark with this. Many's the time someone wants to change barrels only to be disappointed that he selected the non-standard Mossberg. Do yourself a favor... get the 500, and save $50 in the process.

I believe that the Persuader, model 500 style has a longer tube that fits a barrel that is specific to that particular model.

The 590, which has the 835 magazine endcap style or type, is longer as well.

I don't think either will take standard Mossberg barrels without changing mag tubes.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.:)

jlv, you are right... Mossberg has 2 styles of lugs one is the Rem style "ring" and the other is the bolt style that uses a 5/16ths screw.

They have at least 2 length tubes (5 and 7 rounds) so the possibilities are at least parlay 4. If you stick with the screw style lug and 5+1, you have the most barrels available. From there, you just have to determine what the uses will be. For now HD may be the only thing you want it for but as you peak on your training with the short gun, you may find you wish to greatly improve your point shooting at which time sports using dirt doves will help and for that, the formal field will likely not allow the super short guns.

If you find you want to hunt ducks or deer, you will likely enjoy the selection of the original 500 barrels.
