Okay, okay... what is it with high powered revolvers?

Okay, you all got my attention. 454 this, 500 that, what is it with such high powered revolves? Sure, if you make the gun big enough and the cylinder long enough you can shove a 20mm shell into a two shot revolver if need be.

What am I missing here? What fun or pain? Hey, unlike others I don't look at it as "why" but as "how bad does it hurt and how much fun will I have" aspect.

Give me a reason to try to figure out why I would want to fire one of these monsters and not worry about a permanet tatoo of a hammer in the center of my forehead :D.

Shoot one and youll see why....theres nothing more impressive than touching off a cylinder full of full house 500 magnum rounds....not painful at all, just VERY impressive! That question is kind of misplaced though...if you want to look at it that way, why on earth do we need anything more than a 30-06 rifle for game in north america??

im getting one for hunting. i have favored a handgun since I was about 8. it was a 22 lr, and I still have it. (the joys of growing up in a pro gun southern family :)) I also favor the

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I also shoot lots of 22 lr, 22 mag, 9mm. 38, 357, 45 acp and shotguns from 410 - 12 ga, yes to a 16 but I dont have a 28. Hell, if it goes boom, I want one. :D Hope that helps.

I hunt Whitetail Deer up here in Michigan, 50% of the time I use my shotgun & the rest of the time I use my Ruger Super Redhawk .44magnum with a 9" barrel & a red dot scope. So far I've had much better luck with the revolver.
Plus I gotta agree with Dasmi "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM" :D

Dirty Harry

If anybody else in this forum is in their 30's, I grew up watching Dirt Harry movies. There was nothing more satisfying than watchin an idiot do a "spray and pray" with their auto's and semi-auto's and watch Inspector Callahan blast him away with one shot from his .44 magnum. I do own mostly semi-auto's, but I rely heavily on my most reliable backup weapon, S&W Model 649 Bodyguard 2 1/2", for up close and personnel communication. It's all about reliability IMHO. Can I get an "Amen" fellas? Hope this helps, Bill

Magnum Force

I'm not in my 30's (I'm 28) but I have seen quite a few Harry Calahan movies. Magnum Force is the best. Makes one fall in love with both the .44 S&W magnum and the Colt Python (that the biker cops carried)

I remember a more modern DH movie where he and his partner are in a high speed car chase. They are being chased........by a toy remote control car :D That is the scene that really "makes my day." It took me an hour to stop laughing.

Speaking of movies!

Does it annoy the hell out of you guys when you see some guy playing a "punk" on TV or in a movie, holding a gun sideways (usually an autoloader), while talking smack to "the good guy"?
I'm like "HOLD THAT D%$^ GUN THE RIGHT WAY.....AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, STOP TALKING AND SHOOT HIM OR RUN AWAY!!!"

For the later part of that comment I refer to myself, If I'm being chased, robbed, beaten on, etc., and my gun clears leather, I intend to to shoot you, forthwith, not tell you why I'm shooting you, THEN shoot you.

My wife asked me about that a few days ago, she said "why is he holding that gun like that?"

Long pause......

Me: "Because he's stupid"

Sorry to get off topic, but that really bugs the H@#! out of me!

"Gangsta" Shooters

When I was at the range today, I couldn't help but laugh at the idiot a few lanes next to me with a semi-auto. He was shooting at a "Schmew" target sideways, like a "thug" in Hollyweird. He was fast shooting fast and missed the whole schmew at the 7 yrd line. I was training on my little 5-shot S&W 649 at the 15 yrd line, shooting hostage targets making single head-shots. I see the same thing when I take my youngest son to the arcade. It's great that "gansta" rap videos are teaching the newest generation how to shoot.

Well, that must make you policemen feel that much safer knowing that these "gangstus" can't shoot worth a flip with their sidewayshooting ;)

I just love it when the Boogers turn the piece horizontal to the ground and goes to blastin' at the range. I alway tell them they look so cool and bad. I tell them that I bet they are heart breakers, widow makers and life takers. I just build their ego, so they keep it up. When I went thru Police School at the Treasury Academy in the District of Criminals one of the students in the class had an attempted robbery poped on him in the elevator in the High Rise we lived in, in Alexandria. The perp fired 8 rounds from a German Luger at him and missed all 8.
My friend put six, center mass with the Model 19, 2 1/2 inch Smith he was carrying. The Perp was DRT.

What about the poor Luger

Did the friend get to keep the Luger or did the police melt it for slag :(

/Doesn't care about the perp.

Back on point....the damage the big guns are capable of is way impressive...like mentioned try it out and youll find out why its soo good :D

:D , you folks make some good agruements :D.

I've had the pleasure of touching the S&W .500 but not to fire it. The gun shop that I go to gets them in and then they go out within the day or days after receipt.

And I grew up with the dirty harry movies (i'm 36) and if I ever got a chance to find/buy the same .44 mag then I would :D. I have fired the .44 mag before and it wasn't that bad from what I remember but it had an 8 inch barrel I think.

I'm waiting for the gun range to put one on the rental rack but they are already special ordering them for customers and haven't had a chance to actually put the ones that they buy on the rack (because someone sees it and buys it as NIB before it can be rented).

Hmmmm.... Dirty Harry. Hunting. Love 'em both.

So why don't I have a new "supermag" yet? Checks checkbook balance... Oh. :(
