Ok, what's the opinion here on this?

I just ordered a SmartCarry holster because I don't wear belts with my pants (not even jeans). IWB holsters don't seem to work well because it's too heavy on the waistbands of my pants and it pulls them down. Now I've been told that my Glock 26 won't be safe to carry in a SmartCarry because the trigger might become engaged through the fabric. The fabric doesn't seem that thin to me, I think that's a far stretch. What about you?

never heard of a smartcarry. i do own a couple glocks and would carry them IWB with out hesitation.

however, the IWB holster must be "stiff" enough not to squeeze around the gun, especially the trigger guard. last thing i want to do is shoot myself in the ass lol :)

(well, second to last thing )

Random thoughts

Don Glock, I believe the Smartcarry is a "belly band" type of "holster". Pretty much the ultimate in concealment, it is worn completely inside the clothes and is made of an elastic material and holds the gun close to the body.

If I were worried about snicking a safety off (on guns that have them) or tangling the trigger in the cloth (for which I congratulate wildangel1955 for the care taken), I would see if a molded holster inside the Smartcarry would suffice to protect the gun from accidental snagging.

It would increase the thickness by the thickness of the holster material and the weigh slightly, of course, but might be worth those sacrifices. It would protect the gun from perspiration better than the SmartCarry alone (which has some moisture protection already, I am sure) and might make presentation easier. I imagine it would make re-holstering easier.

Generally, when you "dress around the gun" as an acceptance that you do have to make compromises, you come to the conclusion that a (real gun-)belt is a really helpful accessory.

Good luck

maybe I could....

...punch little holes in a small square piece of plastic and hand stitch it inside the holster where the trigger would be...??? ... ya think???

...or you could maybe try a belt. Works really well for the rest of us.

The Smartcarry holster is basically a pouch that puts a SMALL gun down in your crotch with your junk. A G26 is smaller than what I carry, but it's not small enough for me to stuff in with the twig & berries.

It's a very unnatural holster... would seem to work best for DEEP concealment, where you absolutely must be able to hide a firearm.

Deep concealment also means horribly slow to draw and completely unnatural to draw. Not to mention how comfortable it may or may not be to have a loaded, double-stack 9mm laying on or about your manhood.

Is there a really good reason why you don't want to try the method that 98% of the people who aren't pocket carrying use? IWB is the way to go for me, no doubt. I couldn't possibly see me living with the Smartcarry.

Oh... and I agree with the idea that if it's not a solid, purpose built holster with a firm, defined body that protects the trigger, it's not a great idea for carrying a Glock. Plaxico Burris will forever be the poster boy for this point.

Opinion? I consider it unsafe to carry a Glock with a chambered round unless it is in a hard holster that covers triggerguard completely or the pistol is equipped with some sort of device that positively prevents the trigger from being actuated.

I may be wrong, but I don't think wildangel1955 has a manhood. Got the impression from a few posts that she is not a he. (References to fingernails, how well some girls can shoot, etc... also, Wild Angels is a Faith Hill...er, correction Martina McBride song about a girl.)

similar, but the smart carry is a below the waist inside the pants soft holster that is a ultra conceal groin holster.
i don't know crap about glocks, but i carried a pm9, colt mustang and a ppk over the years in a smart carry, as a bug.
probably one of the best values for deep concealment out there.

First, if the trigger is pulled while wearing a Smartcarry I would like to know just what in the heck is going on down there.:D I use a Smartcarry every once in a while with a 642 and it works well. I know the trigger pull is lighter on the Glock but I still don't think it would bother me. I'm getting ready to pick up a Kahr CM9 and I will carry it in a Smartcarry some of the time (when I'm on a bicycle).

The fellow that makes them claims he carries a 1911 "cocked and locked" in one.

Why can't a woman be more like a man?

[BTW, my post's title is a song from My Fair Lady.]

If the OP is indeed a woman, I guess we shouldn't be surprised that, even in a matter as serious as concealed carry, she puts fashion ahead of practicality.

Just for the record, I like women who wear sturdy, practical shoes and clothing, use little or no makeup, and can take care of themselves, and I don't think any of that diminishes their femininity or their attractiveness.

Ringolevio, my significant other normally wears sneakers or paddock boots around the home, and is awaiting her RN licensing boards. Farmgirl turned horse breeder/trainer turned RN/BSN.

Minimal makeup, low maintenance, well-grounded, intelligent, and fun.

I consider myself extremely lucky, thanks.

I also like women who can shoot.

A good gun belt is necessary for carrying a handgun using an IWB holster.

If you can quickly get a firm consistent grip on your handgun when using the SmartCarry holster; go for it. Try using a shot timer to check your times from a random start, draw your handgun from your SmartCarry, shoot center of mass at 5 yards; and try to get it done in about 1.5 seconds.

Be careful to keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. That muzzle seems like it is pointed at a critical part of the anatomy when you start your draw from a SmartCarry.

A holster that covers the trigger guard, is "hard", and retains the handgun even if you do a backwards somersault (three requirements that I learned from Jeff Cooper) is also something of a safety device.

There's just no way I could do a backwards somersault, although I will admit that I am more interested in thumbsnap holster than I used to be. Just do something and have your gun fall out and you'll start thinking about it. But more to the point, some guns make my belt sag on one side, too. That's why one pants leg seems longer than the other. And that's why now I'd rather have a lighter weight gun, which I have.

How about a shoulder holster? I've never had one but I've read that women like them a little better than men because they're use to the straps.

No Plaxico

Lets just put it this way, whatever holster you go with, make sure you go with a holster and do not Mexican carry, we wouldn't want you to end up like plaxico shooting yourself. check out comptac IWBs, they may work out for you without the belt even.

A great name for a product that I wouldn't use.

Looks too uncomfortable for anything other than standing up. I'll admit that Kristina, the "SmartCarry" girl makes the SmartCarry attractive. :D
